On the 1st incident, it would've been a very harsh penalty if awarded.
The WBA player had one hand behind his back and the other arm outstretched. The ball hit the former, and as the commentator said then, it did not make the player any bigger, hence no penalty.
If it had hit his outstretched arm, then it would've been a penalty.
On the 2nd incident, judging from the replays yesterday, it does look like the WBA player slid in from the side (from the ref's angle) and not the back, and got the ball first before catching Wilshere.
I thought it was a spot-on call to not award the penalty (that was after watching one replay, as compared to the ref's zero).
But I was initially worried that with the number of fouls on Wilshere, he'd get all hot-headed and pick up a 2nd yellow.
Thank god that didn't happen
We were very narrow yesterday, playing without any natural wingers, and lacked creativity and a plan B.
Was surprised Gnabry didn't come in, or maybe he was just rested.
Good point salvaged. Would've been a very different game if Anelka had put WBA 2-0 up early on.
Spurs getting spanked made the draw much sweeter

Good observation.
Be as it may, its arguably fair to say that the referree failed to protect the players on both sides when bodies keep falling on each other and tumbling in awkward positions. Even if its a fair call on some fouls, the tackles that went in really looks dangerous. The ref should blow his whistles and warn some players to keep the heat down.
He failed in doing that when everything that happens on the pitch went away without any concern at all.
