Hello guys-
i went to change the ownership name ( the house icon under the desktop icon in finder) and all my bookmarks in safari,bit torrent files and everything on my desktop is gone! i tried changing back to the original name but its not working

anyone can help or am i screwed?

i've done something like that b4, and then when i restart it goes back to the same state as b4 i change the name, the name also change back to old one, not new one.. if u restart but still same prob happen, i think your bookmarks, safari setting still saved in your old profile in library or macintosh hd, can try to find it.. cannot tell u where is it because im not typing this on mac tongue.gif

and why u change that?
all the setting are store inside ur user home folder.
if you want to rename it, pls use System Preferences > Accounts

to locate ur desktop's file (if OS X didnt re-built your folder) it's under HD > Users > "your account name" > Desktop

Do a repair permission and see if it fix the problem. if not you have to do a more painful rebuilting process.

Well, im already doing the painful process of rebuilding everything - luckily only my desktop files and bookmarks+ mp3 on itunes is missing - everything else on c drive still in tact.

lesson learnt.

well to let you know what happen is actually the OS X rebuilt a fresh "User" folder after you rename it. Because OS X couldn't find the original folder (eh... where is it?).

So, my advice is to do your backup for the User folder. If you do not have the habits of putting files direct into your Harddrive. All your files that store in Documents, Movies, Musics, Pictures, Desktop. As well as your personal bookmarks, playlist, photo reel will all store in your User folder.
