Getting Started

Hi, im interested in buying an iPad and will be using it mainly for reading. I do own an iPhone and i realize that the iBook app in Malaysia doesn't have much actual books on sale. Is there something wrong with my iBook app or is it the same for Malaysia? Other than that, is there any other way to get legal downloads of eBooks on iPad? Thanks for the help =D

Yes, it's like that. Nothing wrong with your iBooks app. We just have to be patient for copyrighted content to become available on our iTunes Store. Green light is from the book publishers, not Apple. Same like how we (iTunes Malaysia) had to wait so long to be able to buy music.
In the meantime (legal or not—Apple closes one eye; publishers rage), you can get books from the US iTunes Store using gift cards. Search existing threads for instructions on how to open an US account and buy gift cards.
For alternatives to iTunes Store for books, others will have to chime in. I'm pretty sure there are but never bothered to find out.
