MAF Digipat Uniform Making Its International Debut
MAF personnel deployed to Townsville, Australia for the Five Power Defence Arrangement (FPDA) exercise called the Suman Warrior 2013 were issued with the new digital pattern uniform which had made its public appearance last September 21, during the 80th MAF Anniversary Grand Parade and Expo in Kuala Lumpur. ![]() MAF personnel sporting their new digipat uniform. On the far left was an SAF Guards NCO, WO3 Suffian Bin Amin Ex Suman Warrior 2013 was held at the Australian Army’s Lavarack Barracks in Townsville from October 13 till October 25 with participation of all FPDA members namely Singapore, Malaysia, the UK, Australia and New Zealand. In total 185 participants took part in this year’s edition of the exercise. The scenario is based on a military response to a cyclone that has caused destruction to the Australian mainland and is representative of a natural disaster in the region. Military officers from each FPDA nation have to plan support to a relief operation as part of a Combined Joint Interagency Task Force. Exercise Suman Warrior is a brigade level, multi-national military exercise aims to enhance interoperability among the FPDA armies and also provides an opportunity for the participants to exchange professional expertise. QUOTE(yinchet @ Oct 29 2013, 02:06 AM) Vl mica indeed a good system but it dun seem to fits in such pricetags. Seems like mica and exocet has been chosen from the start rite?So do exocet which the latest block enable us to target the land. Ds30m is a concern based on what uncle de said. Hopefully it will not ended up taking ciws role. 57mm lovely selection. And from that on rmn top brass been fighting to get the nsm and essm of their choosing Hope it will turn out well though, no doubt any system will adequate be it mica or essm but in the long run system like the formidable-class will still be a fearsome platform even 10 to 20 years in the future |

China, Malaysia To Hold Joint Military Drills
_________________________________________________________________________________ ![]() The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73), top, is seen underway with the Royal Malaysian Navy frigates RMN Jebat (FF 29) and RMN Lekiu (FF 30) during a transit of the Andaman Sea in 2012. QUOTE KUALA LUMPUR — China and Malaysia will hold their first-ever joint military exercises next year, the DefenceNewsSoutheast Asian nation’s defense minister said Wednesday, despite their rival claims to the tense South China Sea. The announcement by Hishammuddin Hussein, who is in Beijing to meet Chinese military leaders, follows a visit to Kuala Lumpur earlier this month by China’s President Xi Jinping, in which the two countries pledged closer ties. “Malaysia and China are expected to launch our first joint exercise in 2014 after the Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation was signed in 2005,” Hishammuddin said in a statement sent to AFP. The statement gave no details on the planned drills such as their location, scale, or which military branches would be involved. A Malaysian defense ministry official confirmed they would be the first-ever drills between the two countries’ armed forces. Hishammuddin, who met his counterpart Gen. Chang Wanquan in China, also said he invited Chang to visit the Malaysian naval base of Mawilla 2 in the South China Sea on the island of Borneo. The visit would be aimed at launching a “direct-contact” relationship with China’s fleet in the South China Sea. The resource-rich waterway has become a potential military flashpoint in recent years as Beijing has pressed its claim to nearly all of it. Malaysia, Brunei, the Philippines, Vietnam and Taiwan also have various claims — some overlapping — to the sea, a vital thoroughfare for world trade and shipping traffic. The 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), of which Malaysia, Brunei, the Philippines and Vietnam are members, has sought to present a united front against China. It was not immediately clear how Malaysia’s warming defense ties with China would be received in other ASEAN capitals. While the Philippines and Vietnam have been involved in tense confrontations with China over the issue, Malaysia has sought to keep a lower profile in the dispute. In recent years, China has become Malaysia’s top export market and a vital trade buffer against the world economic volatility, and their commerce and overall relationship has strengthened. Xi’s visits to Indonesia and Malaysia and his attendance at a regional summit in Bali took on added significance after President Barack Obama canceled his own plans to visit due to the recent US government shutdown. The episode symbolically highlighted the two giants’ rivalry for influence in the Asia-Pacific and raised questions over Washington’s promise to refocus its attention on the region. China agreed this year to discuss with ASEAN an eventual binding set of rules to prevent accidental conflict at sea, but analysts say Beijing will never give up its territorial claims and they predict maritime tensions will continue to simmer. US Navy cancels notice on F/A-18 fighter jet order plan
![]() QUOTE WASHINGTON - The U.S. Navy on Thursday canceled a notice about a possible order of up to 36 more Boeing Co F/A-18 fighter jets or EA-18G electronic warfare planes after the posting on a federal procurement website sparked confusion this week. The pre-solicitation notice, which first became public this week, had triggered renewed questions about the Navy’s commitment to the 392 billion radar-evading F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program by Lockheed Martin Corp. Boeing has sought for years to sell the Navy more of its F/A-18E/F Super Hornets for use on aircraft carriers, as a hedge in case the more capable carrier variant of the F-35 fighter jet runs into further delays or technical challenges. Navy officials this week said they had no plans to buy more Super Hornets or EA-18G Growlers in fiscal 2015 despite the notice on a federal procurement website. They said the notice was meant to ensure the “proper acquisition process” was in place if more U.S. or foreign orders materialized. But the posting caught Pentagon officials by surprise, since the current Navy budget calls for F/A-18 funding to end in fiscal 2014, with production of the planes to end in 2016. It was not immediately clear why Naval Air Systems Command, or Navair, decided to cancel the notice, which was first posted Oct. 17. The procurement website was updated on Thursday to say the notice had been canceled, but no explanation was provided. Officials with Navair, which oversees aviation programs such as the F/A-18, could not be reached for comment. - Reuters [The Star] [Reuters] Comparison ![]() Growler spec ![]() While on another news, mrca programme is going to be delayed.. more..
