A surface ship with the VLS launched anti-submarine variant; it consists of three stages,
one booster with thrust vector nozzle, one conventional booster, and one anti-submarine light torpedo.

Ah so that's what you guys actually mean when you said "A missile against sub??".

By the way, the illustration of the system makes me think that it's only the standalone launcher that's going to be sold to us (if it's verified), but I'm wondering if there's actually a plan to arm some of our boats with these?

Put these on bunga mas, totally legit

Is this their response from the sinking of Cheonan?

The alleged sub that fired the torpedo was lying in wait virtually undetectable, can our sub do the same hmm.gif

U.S., Chinese warships narrowly avoid collision in South China Sea

user posted image

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. guided missile cruiser operating in international waters in the
South China Sea was forced to take evasive action last week to avoid a collision with a Chinese
navy ship maneuvering nearby, the U.S. Pacific Fleet said in a statement on Friday.

The incident on December 5 involving the USS Cowpens came at a time of heightened tensions between
the United States and China following Beijing's declaration of an Air Defense Identification Zone in the East China Sea.

The Pacific Fleet statement did not offer details about what led to the near-collision. But it did say the incident
underscored the need for the "highest standards of professional seamanship, including communications between vessels,
to mitigate the risk of an unintended incident or mishap."

Beijing declared the air defense zone over the East China Sea late last month and demanded that aircraft flying
through the area provide it with flight plans and other information.

The United States and its allies rejected the Chinese demand and have continued to fly military aircraft into the zone,
which includes air space over a small group of islands claimed by China but currently administered by Tokyo.

In the midst of the tensions over the air defense zone, China deployed its only aircraft carrier,
the Liaoning, to the South China Sea for maneuvers. Beijing claims most of the South China Sea
and is involved in territorial disputes in the region with several of its neighbors.

Analysis: Lost Brazil order raises threat to Boeing fighter jets

user posted image

QUOTE
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Brazil's decision to buy Swedish fighter jets
instead of F/A-18 Super Hornets from Boeing eliminates its most promising
foreign-sales prospect just as the U.S. company faces critical decisions
about extending the jet's production line past 2016.

The loss of the $4.5 billion contract for 36 planes is the latest blow to Boeing's defense division,
whose F-15 fighter jet last month lost a potential 60-plane order from South Korea to Lockheed
Martin Corp's next-generation F-35 fighter.

Without new orders, both programs, based in St. Louis, Missouri, could fold in several years,
effectively putting Boeing out of the fighter-jet business until a next-generation plane is developed,
a decade or more in the future. The closures would follow the shuttering of Boeing's C-17 military
transport plane production, in Long Beach, California, set for 2015, also because of sagging sales.

All these prospects present a near-term threat to Boeing's defense business. Fighters and C-17s
accounted for 40 percent of Boeing's military aircraft deliveries so far this year. Military aircraft
sales totaled $11.5 billion in the first nine months of 2013, down from $11.9 billion a year ago.
(Boeing does not break down revenue by product line.)

Spokesman Conrad Chun said Boeing was disappointed about the loss in Brazil but remained confident
about the Super Hornet's prospects in Europe and the Middle East.

These boats are perfect for ambushing passing warships inside their territory...

Launch the missile next to a small island and then hide behind that island

or

Launch the missile in the estuaries and sprint at full speed into the river and disappear

i rather throw a hand grenade at them rather than shoot an anti ship missile

Itu boat kayu not worth a $100K+ anti ship missile

It like using a whole bottle of sheltox to kill a little ants
*
That's the idea of fast missile boat, they're cheap, small and fast
Same idea as torpedo boat in ww2

One or two dun really pose a threat
but a swarm of these is deadly

Like one post above, one can even hide close to the shore just waiting to ambush passing ships
