QUOTE(cherroy @ Sep 24 2013, 08:43 PM) Wow, I do not know that. Back in the day the League Cup had a little more prestige, just like how the UEFA Cup was more valuable than today's Europa Cup. Point is that today, the League Cup is a competition where most Premiership sides field their reserves but this was not so before. Hence, winning it carries very little weight. If it were 2 decades ago, King Kenny might have kept his job. Losing to MU is not the worst thing, I agree. But if losing at this weekend at Sunderland that the only team without a win after 5 games, then it is. Yes, losing to Sunderland would be a disaster. |

From what I've read it's $1.8 million, excluding the cash gained from advancing during the earlier rounds. Then there is also revenue from ticket sales and tv rights.

Guys, some good news. I'd be well chuffed if we re-signed him.

Well if it's any consolation he did deploy a new formation to some effect. Kolo Toure playing effectively as a sweeper got forward on occasions and we did find pockets of spaces in the Utd half. Henderson looks like he's adapting to the right wingback role rather well. Didn't expect to see a 3-5-2 from Rodgers.

Would have preferred we fielded our bench. I enjoy a good cup run like anyone else but I can't say I'm too disappointed in the manner of our exit. The lads gave us a decent performance. The formation was unexpected (to me at least), and Suarez got a run-in. He's still lacking match sharpness but that's nothing that a few games under his belt won't cure. The Capital One Cup has lost a lot of its prestige over the years.

I can understand the temptation to field a strong squad against the mancs but I really wished he'd shown some restraint and let the young uns stretch their legs a little. Aspas is having a torrid time despite strong displays during pre-season. Coming to terms with the physicality and pace of English football is taking him longer than expected. We won't always buy gems, like any other club, and this is evident by the long list of duds over the years which include Morientes, Diouf, Downing, Aquilani, Carroll, Keane, etc. Aspas cost us as much as Dossena did which is some way off the price we paid for Downing, Aquilani, Carroll and Robbie Keane. Still hoping he comes good but he needs to bulk up in the way Yao Ming did after moving to the NBA.

QUOTE(Everdying @ Sep 26 2013, 11:30 AM) Good question. You've just reminded me of him. Well the lads sound positive although they look a little lethargic. With the intensity of training sessions having risen over the years, we will never see another Phil Neal phenomenon. I doubt his record of 365 consecutive matches will ever be broken. Point is, the Capital One Cup was the perfect time to rest players like Gerrard (although it needs to be noted our captain isn't as frail as some make him out to be. he was ever present in the side last season). Psychologically speaking, no one has killed themselves or looks disinterested during games. There have been lapses in concentration however leading to defensive errors and misplaced passes. |

You do get players who can single handedly win you games and carry teams on their own like Gerrard, Messi or Maradona but they are rare. I agree with Rotuham stating that some players have proven to be a hit though I'm no quite sure about Sakho yet. You can have great players in mediocre teams but it doesn't make the player any less talented. A certain Matt Le Tissier comes to mind. George Weah never brought Liberia to the a World Cup. Luis Suarez scored a bucketload of goals last season despite us finishing out of the European spots, ending the season with jack but it would be unfair to say he didn't have a successful season.

During the 2nd half of last season, Countinho created more chances than anyone in the team and was amongst the league leaders when it come to conjuring openings for fellow teammates. Thing is without him in the side, who's next best? Suarez is definitely in with a shout which is why the onus was on him to do so. When Countinho returns, he'd be on the end of passes instead of being the one to actually play them.

Very good read this
http://talksport.com/football/back-their-p...ain-13092661723? Roughly details our decline since 1991 but also the progress made off the pitch where the race which doesn't involve a shiny silver trophy needs to be own, and we're playing catchup, |

QUOTE(markblurberry @ Sep 26 2013, 10:25 PM) but it is already well known amongst Red supporters...we had one calamity too many...from Souness infathomable decision to sell Beardsley and brought in Saunders, and other stupid signings i.e Paul Stewart & Bjorneby....btw, Souness is the last manager with the sort of buying power and financial muscle to revamp our players, he's got budget to do it and he blewn it..BIG TIME!! Think of Julian Dicks, and you'd think Souness is a d***...couple with boardroom incapability to Morse selling us short to H&G instead of DIC....there are too many variables that were self-inflicted... Selling Steve McMahon was too impulsive. Paul Stewart's signing was a mystery. Another bloke I thought was sold too soon was Ray Houghton. Rick Parry's inability to capitalise on our fanbase financially was another blemish.I was actually pretty excited by the team Roy Evans had assembled and was left dumbfounded by the decision to appoint Houllier as manager beside him. When was the last time a club had 2 managers? He promoted the likes of Steve McManaman, Jamie Redknapp and Robbie Fowler to the first team. QUOTE(Rotuham @ Sep 27 2013, 03:46 AM) Our captain can regain his form if puts aside his stupid ambitions for england. What does he hope to achieve with roy? Let's hope he retires from international footy after the World Cup.I wont be surprised if he plays poorly against sunderland. He's been overplayed and if that continues he is gonna get injured at some point. |

QUOTE(markblurberry @ Sep 27 2013, 12:58 PM) Yes Roy Evans actually gave us a good shot, but the man himself was never given his due credits...prbably too much lifestyle excesses, which i heard, but we consistently challenge top tier of the table..all in all, Liverpl have its own strange way of shooting himself on the foot....even the stadium expension is a fiasco that drags and drags for so many years...stanley park or anfield - boom the Emirates was built...then boom the new Wembley...but we still having to resolve a few run down houses around anfiled... Evans actually did a good job of steadying the ship after Souness set us back into the dark ages. We had a young, exciting team although as you've quite rightly pointed out, the player's lifestyles dominated the headlines. Those white Armani suits... New stadium? Stadium expansion? A conversation that's been going on for years now. So the price of iron went up and scuppered G&H's plans eh? Blessing in disguise given the debt they managed to rack up. We have the smallest stadium amongst the big clubs and here's hoping FSG will finally be the ones the set it right. |

QUOTE(never_walk_alone @ Sep 28 2013, 11:49 AM) Peoples who hate suarez they are just jealous not to have him in their teamĀ Suarez is an amazing player but Ian Ayre has a point. He represents Liverpool Football Club and his conduct on or off the pitch reflects upon the club. There is no possible way that any of us can condone what he did to Ivanovic. The club comes first and Suarez needs to grow up and realise that. He is responsible for his actions, no one else. He needs to mature, do away with the antics and focus on what he does best, play football. The club has always stood by Suarez and he owes it to us to behave. IF he doesn't he should be reprimanded if not by the manager, then by the management. However I don't like IAN statement on Suarez... IAN PLEASE SHUT UP...AND CONCENTRATE BUILDING LFC RATHER THAN MAKING STUPID COMMENT.. I don't think anyone hates Suarez because he's good. They hate him because he constantly whines and remonstrates whenever an opposing player brushes into him though he has showed some restraint since. This is where I'll give him credit. Doesn't go down like he's been tagged by a sniper these days. This post has been edited by Duke Red: Sep 28 2013, 01:03 PM |

10 of our best centrebacks ever.
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1789333...ers-of-all-time I reckon Alan Hansen would fit right in to today's team whilst someone like Tommy Smith would struggle with the pace of the game. I kinda like football in the old days where the sport was played by men like the Anfield Iron who has tough as nails. As Bill Shankly put it, "Tommy Smith was not born, he was quarried". He'd let you know he was in the game early on by going in hard and you'd better not let him catch you messing with any other lad in a red shirt. Often scared 10 shades of shite out of his opponents. Those that haven't should read is bio. |
