best is u try to relate something that can be used in that role to promote that although u are not a perfect fit, u at least can still fit most part of it.

like my new role, requires from start of user requirement gathering, design, develop until rollout and maintenance (full sdlc)
i nvr done user requirement gathering at all cause i have always done maintenance work
user requirement is by boss and then i start from requirement
i told them exactly that i have nvr done user requirement gathering but i have dealt with the user with their constant change in requirements (user nvr know what they wan and they think u psychic knows what they wan eh)
