Hi guys, newbie here. I'm very very interested in getting myself a Suprima S. In fact, I've test driven it for 3 times, hehe... The only thing holding me up from booking the car is that I'm worried about the reliability of the CVT transmission. I've no doubt about the 5 years warranty by Proton, but I plan to keep the car for at least 7 years (until my last installment).
I've driven only manual cars since getting my driving license 13 years ago. I enjoy driving on twisty roads and always downshift a gear when entering a hard corner. In the Suprima maybe I need to downshift 2 gears.
So my question is, do you think the Punch VT3 gearbox is reliable enough with frequent downshift for at least 7 years?

QUOTE(mrhaz @ Sep 19 2013, 10:15 AM) since its a C-segmen car, the rear seat space is comparable to other C-segmen. im coming from a B-segmen car, the rear seat is pretty spacious! The rear seat is more spacious than Perdana and Waja, and the rear headroon is more than Cerato. I know this because I have sat in all the cars mentioned.

QUOTE(V12Kompressor @ Sep 19 2013, 12:19 PM) If the condition permits, then the TCU (Transmission Control Unit) will permit you to drop a gear (or two). If the condition doesn't permit to do so, the TCU will never allow you to drop the gear to protect the transmission. The VT3 has lots of safety mechanism built into it, so no worries. As for reliability, the VT3 unit is essentially a unit based on VT1, developed by ZF to be used in Mini and MG cars in the early 2000s. Nothing major has been reported by the owners in the net, so it is safe to assume that the reliability is good without counting small cases of manufacturing defect. There's also a few Preve who bring their CVT into the track and no unwanted problems arise after the event. So glad to hear that. I can place my booking now...

I've placed my booking today . For the hire loan purchase I got 2.77% p.a. rate from Public Bank. SA gave me full tank and free Smart Tag. He said I should get my solid white SS in 2 weeks. Should I ask for more gift from him?

QUOTE(mat79 @ Sep 21 2013, 11:36 PM) the r n h issue. actually, the presentation is to a closed groups being invited such vips, those in industries n media reps, and prtn dont even plan to do it publicly, left alone live telecast. then, paul come forward want to do the cover online for the event. prtn dont pay a single cent to paul. paul actually bear all the cost. kudos to paul. so, when people stream it online, they taught it was a public event,n comparison is actually normally done at private event. thats why no mass media news mentioned about the comparison or usp of the product. every event the media went, there will be a comparison on such thing. but wont be reported in the news directly. same practice done by others manufacturer. remember how mirage n attrage being compare directly to its rival on fc? nobody questioned it n just accept the data even come from INTERNAL SOURCE. yup, grass is always greener on the other side `:-(. sory, too long. bye. That's the typical Malaysian perception towards Proton. I wonder if the Koreans had the same perception towards Hyundai and Kia in their early days (1960s-2000s)...

QUOTE(Noyoudontcare @ Sep 25 2013, 10:07 PM) does anyone have the urgency to isntall this racechip thing? i think its endorsed by proton itself? wont void thr warranty? can increase hp by a fee dozens?? As far as I know, Proton doesn't endorse racechip and it will make your warranty void. Here's Q & A with kristof, Punch VT3 engineer, quoted from Preve forum: Q. Regarding - Chiptuning and AT gearboxes:A. First of all it's never good to chiptune engines that use a AT gearbox, second of all I don't recomment to chiptune this CFE engine in particular! We have run quite some test, and soms tests with blow off valves not working causing overpressure from the turbo (that is what they will do) with disastereous consequences! This engine is still highly based on a non turbo engine, therefore components are allready on their limit. As for the CVT 220Nm is indeed a maximum when it goes for mass production. same as a VW golf GTI is max 220hp for production, this does not mean you don't have any reserves but from that point you will shorten the lifetime. Why is this so critical for CVT? A CVT uses a steel belt pressed in between two pulleys, by varying clamping on the second and first pulley you shift. When you are not shifting you still need clamping force to push the belt so it wouldn't slip. This pressure is based on the torque the CVT needs to handle -> high torque? high clamping force! this torque is told to our control unit from the engine ECU. When you chip your car however the ECU will tell us the stock 205Nm and not the real 235Nm resulting in possible damage. Even though we do have some safety build in, i highly discourage chipping the ECU. Keep in mind that proton will retract warranty in these matters!

QUOTE(~Rogue~ @ Oct 1 2013, 11:55 PM) Hi there , all suprima owners , does anyone know how to solve this problem ? I put all my songs into a SD card , but when I clicked media>sd card it will have a long list of songs starting with ._(song name) , some sort of a duplicate or shortcut ? I need to scroll all the way down only to be able to click on the mp3 that transferred in . Any idea how to hide it or solutions ? The player doesn't recognise the format ._(song name). This is most probably caused by virus from the source.

QUOTE(Boy96 @ Oct 6 2013, 05:26 PM) Finally got the chance to testdrive the car, everything was fine EXCEPT there was an annoying rattle at the back seat / boot area. The noise may be caused by the boot cover behind the rear seat, I think. Should be an easy fix.

Guys, my SS has this very subtle/faint grinding noise at very low speed (<6km/h). It sounds as if the wet clutch is closed when you press the throttle (gently) and open up when you release it. Is it normal, or should I report it to service centre during 1st service?

QUOTE(mat79 @ Oct 7 2013, 12:17 PM) i think the rattle at the backseat is due to the seat latch improperly lock to its anchorage. Mr Mat79, can you help me with this... My Suprima has this subtle/faint grinding noise at very low speed (<6km/h). It happens when I release the throttle. Is it normal, or should I report to service centre? Also, I cannot cycle trough the dash display (TripA, TripB, TripC, instant fuel consumption etc.) even though I press the button at the end of the wiper stalk many times. Help! QUOTE(yaz_inseven @ Nov 4 2013, 04:11 PM) is it normal if fan running sound not heard after engine turn off? I quess when the sensors detect the turbo temperature not hot enough, the fan and electric water pump won't be turned on. Sometimes when I drive for a very short distance (less than 1km), the fan won't turn on after I turn off the engine.

QUOTE(V12Kompressor @ Nov 9 2013, 10:00 AM) It is not they (the government of thailand) support Toyota, but rather it is Toyota who lobbied for those policies. The government of Thailand is forced to implement those policies in favor of Toyota because they can't afford to lose the billions of dollars of FDI poured in by Toyota alone in their country. However, fear not. THere are reports saying that next gen proton engine will be a 1.2, 1.5, 1.8, 2.0 and 2.2. The 1.2 and 1.5 could be turbocharged too, along with the 2.0 and 2.2. That means Toyota is afraid of losing potential customer to Proton, in Thailand, where Proton is not 'protected'...
