QUOTE(mcko @ Dec 9 2013, 08:52 AM)
Just got my unit yesterday from a local shop after pre-order for 1 week. Original plan was to wait for Senq stock to arrive but needed for a trip so just grab it since it's arrived yesterday. Paid full price 1399 but got a free SD card and bluetooth mouse at least.

This thing is light and surprisingly the screen pixels are very fine, even better than my acer a500 with higher res. The tablet charged to full power just under 2 hours fresh from the box. Checking the properties show the 500gb drive as "HGST HTS 545050A7E680" ssd. Playback of 1080p mkv movie streamed over wifi is super smooth, even when playing it in dual window mode alongside firefox. Speakers are very loud and clear.

Build quality is quite good. No flexing of the tablet, no creaking loose parts. The docking hinge twisting action is smooth and not too tight. The plastic material on the tablet backing however is a f***ing nightmare, fingerprints build up EXTREMELY fast.

In the box they provide the MS office licence key, but no Win 8 key anywhere? How to format and re-install next time?
The only clip sound I get is when mounting the tablet into the keyboard which is normal. Press it down and it will "clip clip" twice, then everything else is quiet.

**EDIT: I put it side by side with a 1st gen Transformer TF101 (Android) and can see the huge difference in quality finishing. The old TF101's texture and solid metal parts really outshines the T100, but it's heavier and bigger. The screen and keyboard on the TF101 is noticeably bigger than this T100's. The keypress action on T100 however is more tactile and responsive vs. the TF101's rubbery keypress.

No need recovery disk...............
this tablet has 2 characteristic for recovery/factory reset
1. It build in the image of win8 inside, just a few button press..............your win8 will factory reset
(you need enter UEFI(BIOS) to restore the recovery image)
2. If you dont like the stock recovery image, you can download the Acer OEM win8 single language version. Just install it and will automatic activate.

thanks for the feedback. this is one concern i had because with newer Windows, they have so many different tyoe of license... there is one that was so called 'single language' or something like that. maybe that's only for the UI and not input.

thanks once again.

i think similar to other tablets, once you factory reset, it should have reinstalled and license activated?!? dun think its like the traditional laptops but probably behaves more like a tablet.

and probably will also have firmware updates, etc? anyway, just guessing...

btw, how does it feel compared to TF101? i also have one, so can at least know how it performs. <--- i was not abke to find any demo unit.

can i assume it's definitely faster than tf101? i could not play 1080p movies on TF101.

also... screen wise, etc?

I never used a preinstalled computer - I do not trust the lazy assess at ASUS, Dell or HP when in comes to installing OS. Furthermore the pre installed PCs almost hundred percent of the time come with crapware. So I reformat - do clean install before using any new devices.

If clean install, try use the Asus OEM win8. After you install, the win8 will automatic access the BIOS to verify the serial key, then it will activate.

Asus T100 did not come with win8 disk...............you need to find yourself online

but T100 come with win8's image for recovery purpose, keep inside eMMC or dedicated internal storage

It's a Baytrail, it'll chew up H.264 Hi10P 1080P videos.

This is from a W4 but I've tested the T100 before it's the same perf.

i thought it's be like any smartphones and tablets these days... you need to flash ROM if you wanna change what comes with the image? dun think T100 is like a regular laptop where you can format and install using CD/DVD. i figured it would be more like "factory reset" somewhere... i could be wrong.

update 1:
from the T100 manual, ya, it looks like you can do factory reset. or recover from CD (but not possible since not provided). however, i do see a bunch of drivers on Asus website. well, anyone wanna try it out now? smile.gif

By default the T100 probably boots using UEFI instead of BIOS which makes installing stuff a bit different, take a note of it first.

I prefer use recovery image, than delete the bloatware if you wish...............faster than you find the OEM CD
