Haaaiii..... these old school wheels causing problems again.

Actually the original offset wheels are made because original 1970-1980 FR cars have short rear axles. And the wheels are supposed to fill the length by using < 0 offset and the rest filled with rim and rubber.

In racing besides offset is the rim width. Width not rim depth from offset. Racing wheels have wide rim width. Usually starts at 8" all the way to 11". These wheels are meant to be mounted with race tires. Slicks and such. Only race tires have approximate width that matches the wheels.

Come to modern age, the copied design and size of the the offset wheel was never changed because they copied direct from the original offset of old school wheels.

Now come to what is being sold today.

These wheels are the popular ones.

There is a flaw really. Because the offset are for FR, it will always never fit FF platform. And whats worse originally FR wheels have different correct offset front and rear. So the rear u will get this,

But the new ones have negative offset all round in FF platform! So u get this.

Then there is the problem of stretched tires,

Some ways you could fit those wheels are add on over fenders, and rolling stock fenders might help. But seriously with low riding suspensions coupled with sidewall in contact with the road when cornering... expect the worse.

On top of that you stretch the tyre just so you don't rub your fender laugh.gif

There is no tires that could fit in those wheels. Really none that is available here. 14x6" can fit 185/60/14. But the time it reaches 14x8 the walls will be stretched because there is no tires wider than 185. There is 14/55/205 up to 245 Radial. But all USA ones. When they buy 15" the popular ones even worse. Those wheels size goes up to 10" width. Still cannot fit the widest street wheels. Unless they buy track slicks which goes as wide as ones wallet can. hahaha.
