i see, but i notice that there is no microSD slot for these models, will that be a big problem? compare the T100 and P3, which one is more worth buying? and i saw on the acer website that there's a W700 which is quite similar to P3, what are their main differences?
*
W700? EOL already hmm.gif P3 actually was the cheapo replacement for W700 (which has nicer screen and better build ... cry.gif ).

Yup, P3 don't have microSD slot. So you need to connect to external storage via USB 3 port.

Depends on your usage. If you open 1 application at a time, don't do anything too heavy (just MS Word, browse internet, ... ), then Bay Trail is sufficient.
You said only word processing for academic usage, I take it your academic pursuit does not involve any software that need to manipulate large pool of data, or mulit-media, ...?
T100 also come with MS Office, iinm. So you may save some money there as well.

If you prefer more traditional form factor, then can consider:

Acer
V5-131-10074G50, 1007U + Intel HD@RM1149, 4GB, 500GB, W8SL
Asus
X201E-KX178D/9D , Intel 1007U + Intel HD@RM999, 2GB, 500GB, FreeDOS, 1 year
Dell
Inspiron 11, Celeron 2955U + Intel HD + (1366x768;touch)@RM1299, 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8

lol.. didnt know that W700 EOL already cause i still saw it on acer website. well, i plan to use it mainly for portability cause i got another laptop, Asus N55SF which is too heavy and bulky to bring to uni so most of the time i leave it at home for gaming and multimedia purposes. In terms of academic usage, i am looking at word/excel/ppt plus browser with many tabs for information finding. maybe some minimal movie watching and game during free time biggrin.gif so i guess Bay Trail or Celeron or i3 are all sufficient for my usage

If you are not in a hurry to buy, wait a bit.
Other brands is bound to release Bay Trail spec machine as well soon (e.g. Dell Venue ... )

You may also want to think if you need stylus or not hmm.gif
For example: (don't buy this now)
ATIV Smart, Z2760 + Intel GMA + (1366x768; touch) + 64GB SSD@RM2499[774g w/o keyboard], 2GB, stylus, W8
This was released 6 months ( hmm.gif ) ago, look at that price laugh.gif
T100 has better CPU and IGPU than this, just smaller SSD.
What I want to point out is the nice stylus it come with, which enhance its usability quite a bit. No harm going out there and play with the demo.

Thank you for your response. I fell in love with Stealth, but does 765 has huge difference with 770?
Also, I heard stealth and ASUS 750JX has problem with its screen?

Thank you.

i dont think you need a core i7 for entertainment purposes. the only main purpose of it is only when you want to utilize something that uses heavy processing power. anyway :

Dell
Inspiron 15R, i7-4500U + AMD HD8850M (GDDR5) @RM2499[2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), Linux, 65WHr; W8SL@RM2699

Lenovo
Z510, i5-4200M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2399[2.2kg], 4GB, 1TB, backlit, W8; 2 yrs, color: white

keep in mind the Dell uses an ULV CPU which is different from consumer lines.

it is huge. smile.gif
sauce

it is true but the G750JX did a lot better than the GS70. colours on the GS70 are totally washed out and not real. ASUS on the other hand has poorer viewing angles, colours washed out easily on simple turn.

Hi.

I'm thinking of getting a laptop. Asking around, I found that most of my mates recommended ASUS.

So, I read up some ASUS guidebooks and found that X45U - VX024 fits the my budget (RM1000 - RM1300).

X45U - VX024 Specs:
2nd Generation AMDĀ® Brazos E2-1800 Processor (Dual-Core, 1.7GHz, 1M cache)
No Operating System (Will this be a problem?)
14ā€ HD (1366 x 768) LED backlit
Radeonā„¢ HD 6320 graphics with HDMI output
2GB DDR3 RAM
500GB SATA HDD
6 Cell Battery 4400 mAh

I would use the laptop for:
- Document editing (Microsoft Office)
- Watching Movies
- Store lots of pictures (Amateur DSLR Photographer)
- Use it for presentations (sometimes 4 hours long)

I would like to hear you guys' options on this laptop.
If there are any better options please do tell. I'm not limiting my options to ASUS only. (Prefer 14" though)

Thank you.

The E2 is a relatively weak CPU, comparable to the lowest end of current gen Celeron.
The CPU is good enough for your MS Words, movie watching, PowerPoint.
You store pictures only? If you don't edit picture with this laptop, it should be fine as well.
No OS mean you have to get OS and install yourself. If you are a student, you should be able to get cheap legal OS from school.
2GB RAM is kind of low, try to get more RAM (4G stick is ~ RM100, 8G ~ RM200).

Alternative:
Acer
E1-432G-29552G50k, Intel 2955U + Nvidia GT720M@RM1399, 2GB, 500GB, W8
E1-470-33214G50s, i3-3217U + Intel HD4000@RM1399, 4GB, 500GB, FreeDOS

Dell
Inspiron 14-3421, i3-3217U + Intel HD4000@RM1399[1.99kg], Win8SL, 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), 4-cell

Lenovo
G400s, Pentium 2020 + Intel HD@RM1349, 4GB, 500GB, W8
G400s, i3-3110M + Intel HD4000@RM1299, 4GB, 500GB, FreeDOS; W8@RM1499

Prices are RSP, negotiable.
