PETALING JAYA: Rakan Cop, the community police corps that was formed on Aug 9, 2005 to help combat crime in the country, is set to be rejuvenated with a re-launch in December.

As part of the rebranding, Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamid invites superbikers and other motorcyclists to be part of the corps, which started as a phone and SMS platform for the public to give information to the police on criminal activities in their neighbourhood.

“There are about 50,000 bikers riding superbikes and hundreds of thousands of riders on smaller bikes.

“We will absorb them into the Rakan Cop programme as the ears and eyes of the police,” he told reporters after opening a Riders Haven motorcycle shop branch at Putra Heights, near here, yesterday.

Dr Ahmad Zahid said the police would provide training and authority cards to bikers who apply to be part of the re-branded Rakan Cop.

He also announced that the new Rakan Cop will use the emergency number 911, instead of 999.

For those who wear Balaclava, any specific reason to wear it?

Any bike chasing criminals program in KL yet? I am sure there are many volunteers, well including me.

My neighborhood got guards. Maybe can start at rela but my size so small, stick with bike chase better.
lets say if really gov do this, will we get sponsor(rent) ninja250 to chase kapcai?
or superbike chase kapcai? seems like overkill. LOL
