Erm, from what I know, you cannot install windows 98 on the latest nforce 3/4 motherboards. I see all cybercafes at my area who upgraded to athlon 64 upgrade to windows xp. See motherboard manufacturer's site for details. It is stated clearly on MSI site.

Really? I tried installing it on my computer in signature. Win98 will not support more than 512MB of RAM. I didn't realize that NF3 and NF4 motherboards simply did not support an operating system.

Not true.I've installed Win98 on these MSI motherboards before and there is no problem with the motherboards. But, yetieater is correct. The real Win98 problem is not about the motherboards ~ it is about the installed system RAM which is above 512MB. On some of the motherboards, you need to modify the System.ini and use either one of these 2 workaround. a) In the [Vcache] section, limit the MaxFileCache to 512MB http://support.microsoft.com/?id=253912 OR if it doesn't really work use b) In the [386Enh] section, limit the MaxPhysPage to 512MB. http://support.microsoft.com/?id=181862 |
