Depend on looks. Most people that still not accept smartwatch was due to looks and price. If Asus able to pull this with good looking Android Wear while maintain lower price ( as they mentioned before ), it could work.
I'm still waiting for HTC's Android Wear, given their recent phone design looks premium and delicious, I'm waiting for it. If they announce round Android Wear, then I will have headache

Maybe the term Smartwatch needs to be reviewed again or we need to correct our perception of the term. To some, their impression or thoughts on it as a watch that can function as a standalone replacement to your phone. Meaning, a mini version of your phone on your wrist. So, you could do everything including replying and answering a call/sms from it.
The current crop of 'Smartwatches' including Android Wear should only be called companion watches IMHO because they do not truly offer the full features. It is merely offering an extension or another avenue to access some features of your phone without needing to pull out your phone from your pocket. Pebble is doing it a different way, Android Wear is doing it another way.
Not many people are jumping into the bandwagon yet because of the above or because they couldn't justify paying between 700-1K for a watch that merely allows you to display certain information on your wrist. It could be also due to the hardware requirements because not everyone is using the latest or at least the latest phones that can accept these watches.
SCENARIO
------------
Imagine getting a notification on your phone, and this information is relayed to your 'Smartwatch'. It is great when you can scroll through the entire message/mail, but what happens if I want to respond, I need to access my phone to reply. Android Wear allows you to use Google to reply but how accurate is the dictation? We do not have gwailo/amor slang so the voice translation may be incorrect. So in the end, still need to use phone to reply...
I'm contemplating to get Smartwatch too but having doubts at the moment. It could be just a passing fad, or the spur of the moment kinda thing due to all the hype generated. Maybe it is just not for me. But perhaps some of you may have a valid and genuine reason to get it. But I feel the concept and technology is not really matured yet.
Just sharing my thoughts and invite some discussions on it.
