Doubt you can get many watches below that price (apart from one or two from Kickstarter). I'd say the price would range from the lower end RM600 to the higher end RM1000+ depending on the features and more so branding. The current strong US dollar is not helping either.

I believe those are older/first generation models.

Perhaps OP should include what features qualifies as a smart watch. Then the discussion will get more interesting.

A smart watch should not only pack features but also aesthetically pleasing and comfy to wear. IMHO, should be a balance of all this.

Just to chime in. I think all smart watches should be cross-platform compatible i.e. it should support the 2 mainstream OS'es, Android and IOS. What I noticed is those non-OEM products e.g. those from Kickstarter, majority supports them with companion application to fully utilize the watch's features.

I wouldn't want to buy a watch which specifically runs on one platform and worse still run on a particular phone(s) from the same manufacturer.

Well, if they minus the camera, the microphone on the buckle, perhaps use plastic instead of the metal/aluminium frame, use a normal glass watch face instead of a scratch-proof one who knows, we might get a sub 100 dollar watch.

You won't see quality smart watches at such low prices.

with lg watch and moto360 coming, is pebble steel or sony sw2 still worth buying? unsure.gif

Minimum to support Android Wear is 4.3 right? I believe those mainstream latest phones shouldn't have problems to support.

So for those who want to join or are considering to join the bandwagon have to make double investment i.e. on a new phone rocking minimum Android 4.3 and also the watch itself.

For the rest, perhaps the next best thing is to get Pebble?

Most review I read, can last more than one day, but rarely reach two full day, so still consider as one day  sweat.gif

I believe the bootloader can be unlocked already and there's even custom rom available. Perhaps this can improve the battery life slightly.

Is Pebble still relevant now that Android Wear is out? Granted Pebble is the only watch so far in the market that supports both IOS and Android but Android Wear looks promising with what it can do more.

Depend on looks. Most people that still not accept smartwatch was due to looks and price. If Asus able to pull this with good looking Android Wear while maintain lower price ( as they mentioned before ), it could work.
I'm still waiting for HTC's Android Wear, given their recent phone design looks premium and delicious, I'm waiting for it. If they announce round Android Wear, then I will have headache  biggrin.gif

Maybe the term Smartwatch needs to be reviewed again or we need to correct our perception of the term. To some, their impression or thoughts on it as a watch that can function as a standalone replacement to your phone. Meaning, a mini version of your phone on your wrist. So, you could do everything including replying and answering a call/sms from it.

The current crop of 'Smartwatches' including Android Wear should only be called companion watches IMHO because they do not truly offer the full features. It is merely offering an extension or another avenue to access some features of your phone without needing to pull out your phone from your pocket. Pebble is doing it a different way, Android Wear is doing it another way.

Not many people are jumping into the bandwagon yet because of the above or because they couldn't justify paying between 700-1K for a watch that merely allows you to display certain information on your wrist. It could be also due to the hardware requirements because not everyone is using the latest or at least the latest phones that can accept these watches.

SCENARIO
------------
Imagine getting a notification on your phone, and this information is relayed to your 'Smartwatch'. It is great when you can scroll through the entire message/mail, but what happens if I want to respond, I need to access my phone to reply. Android Wear allows you to use Google to reply but how accurate is the dictation? We do not have gwailo/amor slang so the voice translation may be incorrect. So in the end, still need to use phone to reply...

I'm contemplating to get Smartwatch too but having doubts at the moment. It could be just a passing fad, or the spur of the moment kinda thing due to all the hype generated. Maybe it is just not for me. But perhaps some of you may have a valid and genuine reason to get it. But I feel the concept and technology is not really matured yet.

Just sharing my thoughts and invite some discussions on it.

I think I might be late but wow...just found out bout Cookoo watch. Kinda standalone smart watch. The thing is....u dun nid to charge it! Just nid to change the battery.

Any Cookoo users here can give some review? How long does the battery last until we nid to change it?

Now dilemma between Cookoo and G Watch. doh.gif

Are you referring to the first generation Cookoo or Cookoo2?

The first generation uses 2 batteries, one for the analog watch and the other for the other features. One is replaceable the other is not.

If not mistaken the 2nd generation Cookoo uses single battery for both the watch and the notification. So only need to change one battery only but expect to change more often.

XBurst is low power processor found inside many mp3/mp4 player etc. Not so powerful, but not sure if capable of running Android Wear smooth enough or not.

Could it be worse than the TI Omap found in Moto 360.

If you don't mind the square design, I feel LG watch is a good proposition amongst the few watches released so far and overall it is more a balanced package.
