Hi,
I usually shoot outdoor, but recently i grew interest on indoor stuff like small object, portrait, creative lighting and whatnot.

What is the (affordable blush.gif ) lens that people usually use for this stuff?
I mean the good suitable lens, not the best lens ever existed. im not a true professional photographer. biggrin.gif

currently im using nikkor 50mm 1.8, 18-55 kit , 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 and Tamron 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 on D5100 body.

you need flash, learn to control the light, it will change ur photography to the next level, you dont need fancy lens, even a single kit lens will suffice whistling.gif

smile.gif it's not so much about lens already, it's the lighting.

yeah. usually use it for night portrait biggrin.gif
but the short lens somehow feel so uncomfortable and unbalanced when using it in cramped area with ttl cable dangling over my head lel. thats why hardly use it on controlled indoor setting.
should appreciate this lens more biggrin.gif

Based on reply by pros here, youre right i guess.
I thought there are better suited lens out there so i dont have to suffer with low light focusing (especially on tamron and kit ugh.. sweat.gif ), or lens that uhh.. somehow automatically looks better indoor tongue.gif haha
how silly I am.

I never thought lighting play was this addictive rclxms.gif
currently using 3 flash. and should get even more interesting when another 2 AWL capable slave arrive later next week.

1. small things
2. portraiture of miniature

I use 100mm / 50mm lens only. the key is the lighting setup.

oh. nice work.
about the diffuser, is it okay if I use shoot through umbrella instead of softbox?
will it gives same result? I currently use clumsy makeshift curtain and cardboard lel
(too stingy to to get softbox since umbrella got more use)

umbrella and softbox works differently.

umbrella spreads the light everywhere but the softbox, it diffuses but concentrates a particular area / direction.
