GUITAR POTENTIOMETERS EXPLAINED:
• 500K pots are often used with humbucker pickups and 250K pots are often used with single-coil pickups.
• 25K pots are used with active pickups (e.g. EMG).
• 250K pots provide a warmer tone compared to 500K pots.
• Higher values of resistance will sound brighter as less treble frequencies bleed off to ground.
• Lower values of resistance will make the control feel more abrupt (similar to an on/off switch).
• Pots with higher values of resistance tend to feel more controllable.
• Capacitors may be soldered onto pots to reduce high frequencies.
• Audio (or "Log") taper pots are perceived by our ears as "linear sounding" when used as volume controls.
• 16mm diameter pots are often found in Epiphone, Squier, Samick, Cort etc. guitars.
• 24mm diameter pots are standard issue in American made Gibson, Fender guitars.
