Just sharing, my officemate had a very serious SOD issue with his phone (before .510). Every 4 hours, the phone screen dies on him and he needs to hard reset using the small 'reset' button. It worked for a few times, but then, after a few days even the 'reset' button didnt work to reboot the phone.  shocking.gif  shocking.gif

So, I asked him to do the Volume Up + Power button reset method instead, and it worked like a charm.. summore the SOD became less frequent, before is 4hrs, after using the button combo his phone usually lasted 12hrs or more before SOD.

Dunno why people prefer the hard reset key? a little troublesome to open flap and find small object to push. For me I dont believe in the reset key after my friends case, as I feel the android standard of Volume Up + Power button does a better job and made a major problem less major in a way, unconventional, yes, but we never know what actually ticks in those complex electronic circuits..  sweat.gif

I wonder if frequent SOD is a recognised fault claimable under warranty...

@Andrewtst

Even though with screen issue at the moment, XU is still the only S800 Phablet in the market with screens approaching 7".

Screen inconsistency aside, I am sure being Sony, they will resolve the matter given time (SOD). I can see Sony is putting in effort in their Z series and then improving it. I had a friend with a XZ which had stability issues as well as having its keyboard auto type for him when he's not zzz.....and subsequently he bricked his phone whilst trying to update its f/w. Phone's sent to Sony Svc Ctr in Pg and they sent it to KL. Matter was resolved in a week and he even got a call directly from the Tech handling his phone explaining the causes of it, what the tech do to resolve it and further reassuring the customer of the quality of product. Apparently he is the first person who face this problem and it is the initial period when XZ was introduced to the market. The Tech in the communication also obtaining some user input on his usage pattern to establish the root cause and if its a known issue/bug, will be addressed in future f/w update.

Having said the above, I think we should give them time to improve.

On the screen inconsistency, yellowish / bluish tint, even iphone has that. Due to supply capacity, no one supplier can satisfy entire order. It's also not a good practice for a company to solely rely on one single supplier for any given part hence the differing screen qualities from different maker. Though I believe consistency can be improved by specifying the standards and setting the acceptance levels.

Just my 2 cents.

@Andrewtst

hmm...you might wanna visit Sony SC to let them have a check on ur keyboard issue. Might be localised issue, only your unit has it....and since it was not widely reported, any f/w update might not address it.

Personally, I not really buyin a branded stuff to show off n let ppl see what brand i carrying. I'd even prefer the frontage to be free from any brand/labels. I have no qualms to remove the shatter proof sheet after a while n replace it with a normal SP. I buy branded for its quality n durability.

And design wise, I prefer sony over samsung coz hate the rounded corners n somehow samsung gives me the plasticky impression much more than any other brands....

I went by Sony Centre Gurney Plaza and ask about possible indication XZU LTE arrival......they don't have any idea and no indication. It should have arrived by now if it is to be sold on week 38 which is next week. So I guess it might even be delayed further to maybe Oct or later. doh.gif

ya i hate sony now for the damn shatter proof film… the person who given idea for the shatter proof film should get fired! very non-practical idea.. mad.gif  mad.gif  mad.gif  mad.gif  mad.gif

I on the other hand prefers the Sony logo on the shatterproof film. It gives an option to owners whether to keep the brand logo or to do away with it and have a plain screen icon_idea.gif

I prefer minimalist design....clean looks.

This I agree!

That shutter sheet is world most uninspired failure invest.

What for that piece of shit.

Really dunno Sony thinking what.

By attached that sheet, only show consumer your phone is prompt to scratch.
*
But yeah...better still if totally do away with factory shatterproof sheet. Safe the hassle of removing it / replacing it.

It also gives the wrong impression to people coz many thinks its supposed to be screen protector and SP are supposed to be scratch proof but this doh.gif

i know about laminated shatter proof film la.. read previous comments.. i'm angry because based on info given by a member here, Sony told that if want to change the film, need to change the whole screen by paying RM1100. wtf!!
*
Factory laminated shatterproof film is understandable but to be told to replace the whole screen just to replace the film is ridiculous. They should've made the screen with something like gorilla glass in the first place then and do away with the crappy film.

Thing is, I still want the XZU reason being its the only commendable spec 6~7" screen phablet out there. Overall design wise, its still cool from the thin and light profile, aluminium bezel. It's like I don't have any other comparable alternative out there. sweat.gif

You are right, there isn't anything larger than 6" that beats the XZU. However its size is both a blessing and a curse. No male has yet been able to pocket this properly and sit down without resorting to cargo pants or taking it out of the pocket.
*
Yep bro...I m treating it as mini tablet and as such will bag it instead of pocket it. I believe most owners should do that as well or expect a certain mishap with it. I m replacing my tablet with it and since I use prepaid data sim for it, the phone functionalities is a blessing for when I wanna topup or check balance/validity. smile.gif And since the data sim also comes with free calls & sms monthly, the phone & sms function also makes it possible for me to use the free stufs...previously these freebies was a goner in my tablet every month.

Sometimes, a guy don't want to take a bag. That's why phablet is very famous with woman. Coz they gonna put it in their handbag  rclxms.gif

Depends on whether you're comparing it with a full size tablet or a large smartphone. If its the former, I would say this already gives a lot of convenience being compact size. If you're comparing with the latter...well, should we really even compare it with a phone? hehe

I teach you. biggrin.gif

Use the knife and use as input at your XZU (without the extra screen protector).

Tada! is good excuse do another experiment - tearing off front Shatter Proof Sheet as well.
Your brave is big welcome as it solved a lot question by user whether the Sony logo is actually printed at Shatter Proof Sheet or not, also I can complete the sentence in 1st page. biggrin.gif
*
Next experiment, after shatterproof film taken off, apply super glue again on the rear surface. See if the super glue manage to stick to the surface and try to identify best method to remove the residue. rclxms.gif
