Any ways to bring task manager to front?

depends on how severe the hang is, on most directx applications, if you hit the windows key it should minimize to desktop, alt-tab is also another way to force minimize the game. Sometimes the black screen remains but you can see that the windows taskbar appears, and your mouse pointer hovers around this area. Just right click on the game itself on taskbar and close task.
the most ideal situation is no hangs at all. Why don't you mention what game this is and which part of it causes a crash.

civ 5 is known to crash http://steamcommunity.com/app/8930/discuss...71765694383290/you can try to verify cache, update or downgrade your gpu drivers some players hinted on using dx 9 mode instead

the focus should be to fix civ 5 not to crash, not figuring out what to do when it does -__-
