Well, sometimes an applications hangs, in full screen mode (GAME), can either be terminated via task manager or force shut down?
try to open task manager but, the game was at front, alt+tab to task manager can't do.... what i cn do is force shut down only :/
i mean is there anyway to terminate the game process if it hangs?

depends on how severe the hang is, on most directx applications, if you hit the windows key it should minimize to desktop, alt-tab is also another way to force minimize the game. Sometimes the black screen remains but you can see that the windows taskbar appears, and your mouse pointer hovers around this area. Just right click on the game itself on taskbar and close task.
the most ideal situation is no hangs at all. Why don't you mention what game this is and which part of it causes a crash.

spme thoughts: 1. update Civ V 2. clear out ur hard disk, too much stuff slow it down 3. remove unused program 4. defrag 5. if problem persists, reinstall Civ V

Whether the task manager pops up over or under the game. Does it make a difference whether the task manager has the ALWAYS ON TOP on or off, before the game hangs?

the focus should be to fix civ 5 not to crash, not figuring out what to do when it does -__-
