"Chelsea have blocked Demba Ba's proposed season-long loan to Arsenal - because they see Arsene Wenger's men as title rivals.

"Arsenal were keen to sign Ba, offered Chelsea a £1.5m loan fee and were hopeful of signing the striker as back-up for Olivier Giroud.

"But Chelsea held out for £3m and made it clear they ultimately preferred him to go elsewhere rather than Arsenal. West Ham and Napoli were also interested.

"However, Chelsea have decided to keep Ba and that means Arsenal are left short of striking options. Nicklas Bendtner is likely ro stay but it's hard to see him playing for Arsenal again, such has been his fall from grace at the club."

"Chelsea had no intention of allowing Lukaku to leave. But Ba rejected the interest from every club that wanted to take him point blank other than Arsenal. That was the only place he wanted to go.
