Apologies if this is a repeat..
Anyone has any idea or experience with tripod carry on in LCCT and KLIA? I read it is ok in US and most of Europe but what about our local carriers so long as it does not exceed your allowed weight quota. Tks.

Not a problem.
I took with me a few light stands and tripod, all in a single huge bag on AirAsia flight to Singapore for assignment. No issue at all.
Not hand-carry of course, too bulky for that.

i travel quite a bit and its fine to even carry just the tripod with your hands on board (done that a few times on emirates flights from kl to dubai and once on an airasia flight from kl to singapore. just make sure you don't smack people in the head when you retrieve it from the overhead compartments and you'll be fine.

Tks everyone for the confirmation.
Just want to be absolutely sure of our carry on policy.. Each country has its own security requirements and you can never win debating with the ground crew. I dont normally use tripod when I travel but may need to shortly.

I hand carried my tripod several times. Key is to be discrete and understanding. I place mine in a fitting tripod bag. And not overly large tripods as well.

Why Goldie replied about check in luggages when TS specifically asked about carry on? Random sial..
Funny, the last time I flew to Taiwan (for non-assignment purposes though), my tripod was able to go through security checks, to and fro. Must've been a change in regulations lately as that was about 3 years ago.
Add on: mine's a manfrotto and it wasn't in the tripod bag, just tied on to my camera bag with the bag straps.

QUOTE(ChinWY @ Sep 2 2013, 07:29 PM) Apologies if this is a repeat.. Anyone has any idea or experience with tripod carry on in LCCT and KLIA? I read it is ok in US and most of Europe but what about our local carriers so long as it does not exceed your allowed weight quota. Tks. I traveled with my tripod on hand carrying as well. As long it is secured in the tripod bag, shouldn't be a problem. To be safe side, prepare a huge luggage bag that can fit your tripod. You never know other countries flight regulations. So far I traveled Hong Kong and Japan on hand carry with no issues

I have a manfrotte tripot, standard DSLR used, those are too buggy to carry with hand, and usually not allowed to hand carry as it can be "weapon"? So I bought another smaller tripod, can support DSLR too but I usually used with M4/3 only, so that can be hand carry. However most of the time I still put in luggage bag.

Haiz... contradicting experiences here on the Taiwan airport I'll be going to Taiwan this year end, planning to bring my tripod as well, as there are few scenery where a tripod is a must! Anyone returning from there on a recent trip, can or cannot bring?
