After reading this, personally feel OCBC more sincere to keep long term customer, as with 12/24 swipe per year, no annual fee. Cumulative RM10k spent on card, RM50 government tax will refund. Should UOB follow this if they looking for long term royal customer...mmm...

----------

Annual fee will be waived perpetually with minimum cumulative 60 transactions per year
for UOB ONE Classic Card/ 12 transactions and cumulative RM36,000 spend per year for UOB ONE Platinum Card

Thank you, never know they revised the TnC.
Anyway, I'm okay to pay RM50 government tax, since they still spell out clearly the criteria for annual fee, Free for life.
UOB's criteria for free annual fee look like only mean for big big spender.

Will I still be charged service tax if my card is free-for-life?
Yes, the service tax is still chargeable.

If I cancel my credit card before the card anniversary date, would I be charged the service tax?
The service tax will not be imposed on card cancelled before the card's anniversary date.
However, it is encouraged that you cancel the card at least 2 weeks before the card's anniversary date to ensure that the service tax will not be billed to your card account.

Can the service tax be waived?
Just like any other service tax imposed by and payable to the Malaysian Government, we are unable to waive this amount.

60x swipe is reasonable to meet.
For ONE platinum, it need cumulative 36k spend per year.. sound not reasonable, just to waive AnnualFee.

12 transactions and cumulative RM36,000 spend per year for UOB ONE Platinum Card

Most of the time, the bank need to put in the annual fee thing as requirement from BNM, especially foreign bank, they won't get good term like local bank. If you survey, most local bank offer Free For Life credit card in their credit card product list.

I not sure how could OCBC be the first foreign bank that allow to offer Free For Life in their TnC. Anyway, it depend on BNM and the bank, and remember this is BolehLand.

I have called the UOB card centre today to cancel my card due to annual fee and GST, and the staff said somebody will contact me again to 'confirm' the termination. Finger cross

That is long time story liao, before RM50 govern tax policy. Around 2002 - 2008 timeframe.
Now no more insider news as kawan cabut from be cc agent.

QUOTE(Gen-X @ Dec 23 2013, 09:20 PM)
Bro, when did the above BNM guideline came into effect?

UOB has been offering FREE FOR LIFE for more than two decades with minimum X swipes, e.g. my UOB Plat used to need 12 swipes to get annual fee waived. However nowadays UOB keep changing their auto annual fee waiver policy, and at one stage we got to like swipe 60 times! Click here to read my article UOB - Why You Force Me To Beg You?

And for years too I only needed to swipe 12 times to get my HSBC Platinum credit card (they upgraded it to Visa Signature), but that policy is no longer stated in HSBC T&C. However, this year, initially I was told it is still applicable but they then charged me the annual fee, click here to read about it at my Facebook post in June...

And for years and up to date, if one has Citibank Gold Status, UOB Privilege Banking Status, HSBC Premier Banking Status and OCBC Premier Banking Status, they do get FREE FOR LIFE credit cards without needing to swipe even once.

But the website photo show it got paywave.... May be it the old 2005 design. I got it when it launched at 2005, after 1 year cancel it. That time do not have UOB ONE card yet.

Agree with you, call and beg is something I hate to do. Since I use the card for number of transaction, do expect they auto wave AF, instead of need to "threaten" for cancel..

QUOTE(jasmine0085 @ Dec 26 2013, 09:05 PM)
I hold 2 cards that both lately got their rebates / annual fees auto waive system altered. sad.gif

For UOB one card platinum , the minimum income to get the card is RM36k , yet one need to spend RM36k annually to get the AF waived automatically.... With most people holding more than a card , 36k on a single card solely is not easy.

So from now on , every year have to call and beg.. =.=

What is the criteria for FREE Annual Fee for UOB ONE card holder?
If per previous sharing, where ONE Platinum need to spend RM36,000 per annual, it sound like a lot of people can't make it happen. And call to request for free annual fee is something troublesome. Could UOB revive the term for free annual fee?

I mean annual fee, not RM50 gov tax.

Bank just a company that try to make money out from you. So, if this bank not provide the service that meet your criteria, just jump ship. smile.gif

Really no point to think about the logic on their requirement. We feedback our concern on that, and they remain, we just switch... May be they like to recover back what you get from the 5% petrol rebate via annual fee charge. LOL

QUOTE(victorywp @ Jan 18 2014, 09:36 AM)
i think we need your enlightening on uob's new requirement for annual fee waiver (especially on platinum cc):

Need to swipe minimum 1 time per month AND spend RM36K or RM60K depending on Card Type.

1) for a person who earns rm36k annually, they need to spend rm36k to waive the annual fee?
2) for a person who earns rm60k annually, they need to spend rm60k to waive the annual fee?

what is the logic/idea/reason behind this requirement?
how can a person spend everything that they earn?

Where is your source of information?

QUOTE(MNet @ Mar 5 2014, 09:41 PM)
After 18th of the month, the 5% cash back is finished.

subsequent usage will not entitle for the 5% cash back as the 45k/month petrol cash back is finished handout.
