When I press home button, My iPad doesn't respond

Hi guys, my iPad is about 2 years old. Recently when I press the home button it doesn't respond especially if it's 'off screen'. I have to press the 'on' button before the screen would come out
Does anyone know whether this is a sign my iPad's over saturated with programs or gonna be spoilt soon? |
