Nintendo has announced a new version of the 3DS handheld console that plays all 3DS and DS games in 2D only.
The Nintendo 2DS, part of the Nintendo 3DS family of consoles, is designed specifically for anyone looking for a more affordable entry point into 3DS gaming.
In the US it will be available in red or blue for $129.99 from 12th October, the same day Pokémon X and Pokémon Y comes out. Nintendo of Europe doesn't set the price of hardware in the UK. Look for shop prices to go live very soon.
The Nintendo 2DS plays the entire library of packaged and downloadable games for Nintendo 3DS only in 2D, and features a fixed, slate-type form factor. Optional carry cases will be available in red or blue at launch for $12.99 a pop.

before you all started bashing bout that monosound... this model aimed for little kids... i don't think majority of kids knew to differentiate between mono and stereo sounds
Your problem guys with the design? I kinda like it due to it looking old school. When you were a kid did you complain about the Gameboy design? Plus it's cheaper than 3DS so no complains here, and not aimed for you anyway, as the target audience is for kids. I would only be worried if it is comfortable to play or not.
Mono speakers aren't a problem for me as I always play my 3DS with a headphone plugged in. This would be really good if it was announced in Japan, just so I could buy a jap DS for MH4.
Here is the difference

Ahaha when i first saw news of this i thought it's some china knockoff clone like polystation etc but then it's official product...Reminds me of the budget psp in europe that's wifi-less.
More and more 3D game will be coming. Like the idea of 2D as most of the time also didn't on the 3d to play it. But the design seen not holding friendly and portable friendly.
