Can upgrade, but need to worry PSU (180W not enough, use battery boost wear out battery faster shakehead.gif ) also if go for GTX780M. Heat also another problem (100W TDP) doh.gif , dont want to kick in cooler boost (50+ db) every time (occasionally I play NFS Rivals every 20 mins). Currently, no planning for upgrade,

GT70 Dragon Edition 2 come with same 180Watt psu... no problem to up CPU to i7 4930MX and GTX 780M ... Thermal.. BUY CoolerMaster u3 problem solve... doh.gif

4930MX is really powerful, but 180W PSU really can supply 4930MX + GTX780M under heavy load? hmm.gif

Normal condition surely no problem, but at least twin fan + large PSU for such combination.

Somehow I feel the warranty sticker is really annoying, want to open cover to inspect also cant. haiz.....
*
yes... there was show on low yat plaza(MSI GT70 Won *best head turner 2013 by PC.com) ... last month or something show Capabilities of GT70... 180W do not hold back their gaming performance during the test/gaming... (my word should be enough...) but hey up to u... go cry Conner and self off GT70 to somebody who confident with MSI GT70.. cause i don't think you... hmm.gif

x
look GT70 no problem with highest Cpu /Gpu thermal be overcome with Good laptop cooler(what kinda dead brain gaming Without laptop pad ? should just put notebook inside oven.. cook it like chicken)

R9 M290X = HD7970M

but that also mean my desktop HD7870 is still relevant laugh.gif
*
hmm.gif R9 M290X = R9 270(non X) (as the R9 series Support 9th Generation of GCN /Tru audio)

x
ur 7870 should perform 15% faster(without support tru audio but still a Mantle Capable Gpu )

Relax smile.gif , what I hope is GTX770M is not obsolete within 1 year. Currently, I quite satisfy with my GT70 except some usb 3.0 issue with seagate portable hdd. Of course, potential customer of MSI will hope some features for top end model which I think is reasonable.

Before that, you also want to sell your powerful GT70 2OD, somehow upgrade already with 32GB ram + 4800MQ + SSD. sweat.gif
*
is my nature... i don't keep notebook long... i don't have USB issues hmm.gif have you update bios ?

9th generation GCN? isn't GCN only in the 2nd gen? hmm.gif

desktop side:
HD7k = GCN 1.0
HD7790, R9 260, 260X = GCN 1.1
Rx 200 (less 280X) = GCN 2.0

btw, R9 270 is still clocked faster than HD7870...
*
oh i mean 9th generation of programble Tesselation (which info i took from AMD site)

x
look next to GCN Architecture

True, but it seems they are rushing the GX series. And MSI refreshes their products often, and I do mean very often.

I just can't wait for the 'GS60' to unveil  laugh.gif
*
hmm.gif very sure there will be another refresh Apu on GX series soon..

Sharing info on GE40 upgrade.

I finally got MSI service center to swap the 750GB HDD with a 1 TB SSHD. A simple upgrade but the warranty sticker got in the way.

The charge is a standard RM85 (same price at all SC). Very expensive sticker indeed since I opt not to have them factory restore the new drive. Didn't want to leave laptop there, so I used my own 4 recovery DVDs.

Recovery went well. I chose full restore and it created and partitioned the new 1TB drive into several partitions, including recovery partitions (Yay!)

SSHD is noticeably faster. (More Yay!) Opening programs now is in a blink of an eye! Haven't tried gaming yet.

Unfortunately, I didn't see any option of setting the sizes of the partitions OS_install and Data. And upon upgrading to Windows 8.1, it created another recovery partition in between the two. Sigh.

Anyone know how I can increase the size of Data and shrink OS_install? I certainly don't need almost 600GB in OS and 300GB in Data is tiny. The problem now is the hidden recovery partition in between. Is it safe to move that?

hmm.gif how much you pay SSHD ? got 2TB ? thinking to upgrade my Msi
