Thanks for the advice mate. I'm giving it another try because I missed the instruction to use Killer Cleaner 64 before installing the latest suite.

Regarding the warranty seal on the bottom hatch, I can only share my experience. I screwed the entire factory HDD partition when I was trying to clone it into the Samsung 840 Pro. Yes, don't ask me how... but that Samsung Data Migration software screwed both the source and target disk lol!

My hatch seal was gone/broken. I took it to MSI in Auburn and the guy didn't even say anything about the broken seal. I did called the call centre and was inform that as long as we're just upgrading RAM and HDD, not doing anything fancy stuff we're ok. So there you go.

Do remember, MSI-NB nicely worded his reply. "MSI RECCOMENDS...". It was never "MSI WILL VOID WARRANTY UNLESS..."

Similarly, even our beloved Dell "recommends" all upgrades be done by Dell personnel. Illegear too.

I'll take that as a wink2 hush2 way of saying "As long as you don't poke a screwdriver clean through your processor..."

Remember, if MSI does officially condone user mods, all sorts of sheet will happen. WHILE the "sheet" can be worked out, I can understand if MSI doesn't want to be on the receiving end of abusive users taking advantage of that situation.

It's just a legal thing. They have their own asses to protect.

While I'd give an arm and a leg for a company that's brave enough to screw all of this and provide all that freedom OFFICIALLY to their customers, it's not particularly easy to fully implement.

Well, like I said before, as long as they "fairly" judge each warranty claim than it's all good.

ALSO, this "Gamers Meetup" thing might be a good platform to provide users with the opportunity to upgrade. Just take a few techs along and set up an "upgrade/quick service corner", users bring their stuff and the techs can help install them for a small fee (or even better, for free). Also the techs can help clean up user units that have dusty fans or help repaste for a reasonable fee.

Us gamers like these kinda "goodwill gestures". Especially the ones who aren't that proficient in doing things themselves. Does a lot on the CSR side of things. Happy customers are loyal customers after all.

Heck, I'm actually very happy just by having an OFFICIAL MSI rep monitoring the thread. That's already one thing you guys have over other brands, kudos.

That's just me with me long winded 20 cents as usual. YMMV.

@zakov: GS40? YES PLEASE MSI. But do wait for Maxwell first so that I don't have to sell my kidneys.

I already sold my liver for the GE40... brows.gif

Oh by the way, I decided to use the standard DDR3 1600MHz 1.5V modules and it worked without any issues. Wonder why some retailers are so stubborn to insist only DDR3L 1.35V. Funny thing is, they don't have any DDR3L stock when requested to upgrade. Just silly...

Twenty minute hack job. Total damage: RM25 for the CF Vinyl (still a lot left over also).

Next, the screen frame. It's a pain to DIY so I might go get some professional help.

@davidmak: It's not that it WOULDN'T work, it just MIGHT NOT work. Not all 1.5v RAM can run at 1.35v (because that's all Haswell is feeding our RAM with).

So MSI (like Asus) is trying to limit the amount of angry villagers with pitchforks banging on their front door when their 1.5v RAM refuses to work with their shiny new Haswell lappy.

I HATE the shiny black plastic underneath. Better crumpled protector than shiny cheapy plasticky plastic.

And no, my own vinyl work asso shoddy maa. Not straight cut everywhere, how can do for others?

Didn't try gaming yet. Besides, I'm back at my folks = air conditioning. Sure won't notice anything.

Actually not 100% ngam. My inner perfectionist is SCREAMING but I know if I adjust summore it's just gonna get worse, so better not do anything.

Ended up covering the extremely shiny mouse pad button and the battery edge below the screen too. Now stopping completely before I start wanting to cover the spaces between the chiclet keyboard (which will be horrifically complicated).

But now everything looks extremely stealthy, if not a bit cliché with all the CF everywhere lol.

Hmm. Unless you are hellbent on getting MSI, why not the Illegear RS15 Lite? At least its Intel + 770. Sure you don't get the fun extras like a big adapter for future upgrades to a 780 or shiny colourful keyboard. But that 770 is serious business wooo.

Jusssayin.

To sum up, if you are looking for a pure gaming notebook, Intel + Nvidia combo is probably the best.
And since your concern is more towards gaming( and more to MSI in particular) have a look at those benchmarks.

GX70 <<<<< And do read thoroughly.
