Okay so here goes. I know this may be general knowledge to some of the Legacy players but some of the noobs (myself included) whistling.gif would LOVE to discuss more about certain classes to pick depending on your style as well as the much debated but currently still incomplete requirements for certain jobs. Below are what I can make of the Job Requirements and levels needed for each class that you decide to play as. Ultimately, we'll all master each and every job but for those that have neither the time, patience or the necessity to do so consider this sort of a quick guide. Feel free to add more as we go along guys:-

What is a job?
By meeting certain prerequisites, Disciples of War or Disciples of Magic can change from their classes to more specialized jobs. Taking on a job gives characters access to exclusive skills and actions.
The list below summarizes the features and characteristics of jobs:

Jobs are an extension of classes.
Characters switch to a job from the corresponding base class.
Characters can don the gear of the base class as well as job-specific gear.
Jobs have exclusive actions.
Selecting a job will limit the type and number of actions from other classes that can be used. (Some class-specific actions cannot be used after switching to a job.)
Jobs do not have their own levels. When switched to a job, the character level is that of the base class.
EXP earned while playing as a job counts towards that of the base class.
By completing job quests, characters can expand their repertoire of job-specific skills and actions.



Acquiring Jobs

To acquire a job, a character must reach a certain level in the associated class, complete a job quest, and then receive a soul crystal key item. For a list of the job quests wherein soul crystals can be acquired, see the List of Jobs below. To take on a job quest, players must present themselves in the associated class.

Changing Jobs

Characters switch to a job from the associated class; for example, from gladiator to paladin. To switch, characters must possess the soul crystal for that job, such as the Soul of the Paladin. Upon switching to a job, the EXP bar will indicate that you are currently playing as that job. See the List of Jobs below to see the available jobs and the classes to which they are associated.

Follow these steps to switch to a job:

1. Select Gear from the main menu
2. Select the main hand gear slot
3. Select primary arms or primary tools for the associated class
4. Select the job slot above the main hand gear slot
5. Select the soul crystal

Follow these steps to switch back to the original class:

1. Select Gear from the main menu
2. Select the job slot next to the main hand gear slot
3. Select the equipped soul crystal and remove it from the slot

You cannot switch directly from one job to another.
To change from a job to a different class (not the original associated class), simply change the gear carried in your main hand as you normally would.

Job Actions

When playing as a job, you will have access to both the actions of the base class as well as those of the job in question. You will also be able equip certain actions belonging to other classes. Job-specific actions are acquired by completing job quests.


Besides actions belonging to the base class, jobs also have access to actions from certain other classes. Below is a list indicating which class-specific actions are available to each job.

Paladin Marauder and Conjurer
Bard Conjurer and Lancer
Monk Lancer and Gladiator
White Mage Thaumaturge
Warrior Gladiator and Pugilist
Black Mage Archer
Dragoon Marauder and Archer


Job Requirements (Will be updated as we go along)

Job: Paladin
Base Class: Gladiator
Requirements: Gladiator LVL30, Conjurer LVL15

Job: Monk
Base Class: Pugilist
Requirements: Pugilist LVL30, Lancer LVL15

Job: Warrior
Base Class: Marauder
Requirements: Marauder LVL30, Gladiator LVL15

Job: Dragoon
Base Class: Lancer
Requirements: Lancer LVL30, Marauder LVL15

Job: Bard
Base Class: Archer
Requirements: Archer LVL30, Pugilist LVL15

Job: White Mage
Base Class: Conjurer
Requirements: Conjurer LVL30, Arcanist LVL15

Job: Black Mage
Base Class: Thaumaturge
Requirements: Thaumaturge LVL30, Archer LVL15

Job: Scholar
Base Class: Arcanist
Requirements: Arcanist LVL30, Conjurer LVL15

Job: Summoner
Base Class: Arcanist
Requirements: Arcanist LVL30, Thaumaturge LVL15


The list above may differ according to further experiences, for example I can't really be sure about summoner as it's a relatively new job. I'll edit it as we go along and find out more. Happy hunting guys!

At the moment, I'm concentration on being a Black Mage. But I admit that being a Summoner seems awfully cool since it's new and not many people have done it yet. Are there any summoners in the Legacy servers at the moment? I haven't seen one in battle at all.

On a side note, I've been doing some research and some people mention that to be a summoner you need a Arcanist and Conjurer whereas some say Arcanist and Thaumaturge. Can anyone confirm? Legacy players? Yoohoo!

Bard you got it wrong, Need pgl lv 15 and archer lv 30, . i have it pain after lv my cnj to 15 then need to lv pgl then only can change

Bard = 30 archer + 15 pug

Basically Arcanist has 2 job and can swap either of them anytime right (after meet the min requirement)?

I studied their skill, Summoner is more offensive and Scholar is more defensive.

Updated! Also, I agree that it's weird that Black Mage requires Archer. That seems a tad incongruous to include something from Art of War into a class that is essentially completely Art of Magic based. Is this unanimous?

there are possible answer regarding is that, archer has skill that powers up dps dmg and for BLM to get skill from archer is quite correct..if not mistaken archer do have 20% bonus dmg cooldowns? if not worst BLM can also get from PUG if is not ARC

My theory is there was a mix-up when people posted that Black Mage requires Archer. Notice the abbreviation for Archer is ARC. Maybe someone mistook it to mean ARCanist so some people put that in their website instead. Meaning it's originally supposed to be Archer but someone mistakenly input it as Arcanist. doh.gif

My take:
Summoner is a well all round dps job and i feel the DoT dmg not really high until u get BioII(i'm currently level 38 atm) and once you get fester, your dmg will be much higher and keep Aetherflow on CD all the time.Also Bane is a nice Aoe dmg u get once u hit lvl 30 on Arcanist.

And for pets, Ifrit overall is a good dps pet, but u tend to overaggro the mobs that u're killing. Once you get Titan pet,it's get much more easier because Titan will hold aggro like no tomorrow,u can go all out dps on the mobs.

And for Scholar, hell yeah i love the fairy healing EoS so much! it's like having your own healing turret that u can stuck it anywhere and she will help with your healing much.

For now, summoner play will get more fun after u hit lvl 38 and for scholar, its really get much easier once you have Succor(Aoe heal) at level 35.Only gripe is that you dont have dispel ability only after u hit lvl 40.Have to suck to it up with more healing to counter it.

my take for summoner..in dps wise yea is kinda slow...not sure how smn fares behind against blm right now since there is no meters in the game (well there is but i lazy to use from outsource). imho there are still improvement require for smn class whereby this class has some issue on pet controls (coming from wow warlock).

Hope they can give us the capability of marco for our pet to atk as well as casting some pet skill. SMN is a class where u will be very busy for sure since there is so many buttons u need to smash and keep dots up all the time. I hope they can have an ability for summoner to apply instant 3 dots for opening such as warlocks soul burn + soul swap...well we do have aetherflow anyway..it do work like soul burn

overall...enjoy smn game style as well and hope it gets better (not to comment about the pets design yet dry.gif).

I think summoner deals pretty decent damage.. at higher levels just that i hate it during fate as most of ur dps rely on procs.. so i basically just tag enemies but if its a one man boss i feel my damage is pretty decent. Coz some individual mobs u can just pull it away from the tank and test ur damage how fast u kill it lol.

personally i dont really think their dmg can be comparable against blm in terms of on par but at least bit lower than them in terms of killing single monster but on boss i guess we should be able to do sustainable dmg to win against blm...the most important fact that our pet skill are under the same GCD with our other skill as well..basically when u casting Ruin. you wont be able to use ur pet ability which i dont think is a good design for us

Im actually playing scholar as main now.
realize that some skills u can use while ur channeling ur spells like the faeries basic heals im not sure much on summoner tho as i use them for lvling.
It could be something they will fix later so that you can use pet skills when ur channeling ur spells.
Is there a way I can set my pet not to auto cast spells?

there is an obey command (beside of Sic) where the pet will be using auto attack and wont use their skill until you do.

Yea but i want it to be constant lol coz i wanna set which skills to use all the time cant be click obey after every skill lol. coz like the pixie always simply spam the skills not at the right time. Especially the haste like spell.

not sure how you want it to work or how it works on your pixie..but for me i just press once the obey command and it will stop spamming those skill until i said so...except your pet is dead...each resummon need to click on the obey command again...and u cant set which skill to use all the time since this is the limitation of the pet system right now

oh lidat might be a bug for me coz for mine if i set obey but when i use the pixie to cast embrace like manual casting 1 time it auto switch to guard which i find damn annoying... mayb i should report it then.

hmm might not be a bug...i think i also experience this few times during ifrit shield but i dont really give a damn..else i just off their skill using the obey command because all my pet's aoe can wake up sleep and using obey just only allows them to normal atk mostly...guess is not bug on your side but rather an improvement need to be made instead by SE

yea true. guess i just have to live with it... will be better if i can choose when my pixie cast the spells tho lol... but i really like pet healing damn fun. However the downside is if boss does those aoe stacking damage. Like in Aurum Vale need to keep re-summoning my pixie during that fight.

early days in WoW, warlock pets suffering the same issue as well for boss aoe dmg and cleave...this has been fixed by them...i guess SE will fix it soon or later and add the ability of auto casting for each of pet skill (if able)

but if u macro it really makes a difference much better lets say if u use support fairy and ur group dps consists of bard and (Dragoon or monk) the fairy only cast spell haste and will ignore skill haste. And will always auto cast spell haste to overwrite skill haste. Which I dont like bout that... but at least there is like a 1 sec global cooldown for embrace(heal) so i can control that.

Never use the support fairy yet in dungeons, just EoS atm so far. I just order it move,follow and place only, having fairy certainly helps but i can managed to solo
heal w/o the fairies tough.

i think depending on your level.. i find it easier to heal around lvl 35 and above as u rarely run out of mana...with mana regenerating abilities.
