QUOTE(Thrust @ Dec 1 2018, 07:43 AM) This is another area Anthony Loke can look into to avoid customers from being scammed by meter tampering. Too much work involved. With our cars not required to undergo periodic inspections at Puspakom, who is going to be tasked with the job to record odo reading of each car? Unless govt starts charging road tax based on mileage, nobody will want to do the hard work of recording mileage. And by then, we'll have ppl offering services to periodically lower the mileage on weekly basis. What we need now is just an avenue for the buyer to take action upon discovering of tampered mileage, with proof.

QUOTE(Aud power @ Dec 1 2018, 07:41 AM) Option d. Get off the ass and go change the law Unless you have strong connection to government or someone high in the government then that's not an option so it's just practically becomes option 1. 😂

joined to work as used car salesman 2 months ago, being a petrolhead and wanted to know more inside story of this industry
this become a area of interest of mine recently, as i observed the norm in this whole industry
mileage tampering just a small peanut, nothing to shout about
it is unrealistic to get top down changes from governemnt now
learn up basic of your car and basic method to inspect used car will get you further
realistically, hook up a diagnostic tool and read gearbox mileage will be best to find out mileage accurately
tcm log gearbox mileage separately, this unlikely to get tampered

dealer can put in new carpet, rewrap cushion, rewrap interior, rewrap steering wheel, change paddle pad, so anything interior that show sign of age can be changed, when dealer take good profit, they reinvest so your car looks anew, and tampering meter is justified by all those work done. buyer can do nothing about it
and i am just amase the actual cost of those touch up, not your normal retail price
it all depend how far we want to hide sign of wear and tear
so determine mileage is a collective inspection of all aspects of a used car
looking at mileage meter is really, not helping you to get good condition car
it will only mislead you
