That's one reason i reluctant to try Sony flagship. shakehead.gif
This year alone they release XZ...a few months after many ppl buy suddenly they gonna release Z1 with better specs than XZ. doh.gif
Am sure manyy XZ user feel bitter or dissapointed. sad.gif
Now Z1 still not release here..rumours of Z2 come out edi rclxub.gif
*
samsung also the same what... see how many S4 variants they have now, from the original s4 to one with better camera to another with waterproof and then with snapdragon 800 biggrin.gif

at least sony stopped with only 1 variant of Z. Z is released in january, which is considered long enough due for a new flagship from them, the Z1

y people tend to compare Z1 with Note 3 ?

theoretically Z1 is meant to compete with flagships like S4 and HTC one.

Z ultra is the one to go against Note 3

This year three/four hmm.gif

Xperia Z

Xperia Z Ultra

Xperia Z1

If ZL consider as flagship, then four flagship already
*
Xperia Z / ZL announced and released on Jan

Z ultra not considered as flagship, it's a phablet like galaxy note, a league of its own

then Z1 on Sept.

based on the time frame it seems ok for me that its time for Z to be upgraded. but if its true so called "Z2" will be released on jan next year, then i guess Z1 is just like an upgrade of Z (like ip5 to 5S), and Z2 will be the true successor to Z.

then not forgetting there's ZR also which is released in the middle of this year as well, same spec with Z with lower reso and smaller screen, but higher IP rating. it seems ZR will be replaced by the Z1 mini

new rumour specs of Z2

QUOTE
n Friday, we passed along some rumored specs for the Sony Xperia Z2 (C770X), code named Avatar. The specs yesterday mentioned a 5.2 inch IGZO Triluminos Display with an industry leading 500ppi pixel density. Today's speculation has a little larger screen at 5.5 inches, but keeps the IGZO and Triluminos technology. The new rumor has the pixel density at an industry leading 540ppi.

The latest speculation keeps the silicon the same, which was said to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 chipset. The 20.7MP camera also remains the same as mentioned in the original rumor, but this time a Xenon flash has been added to the back of the device. No changes were made to the rumored RAM (still 3GB) and the 3500mAh cell powering the unit. Also unchanged from Friday's leak is the OS build powering the device, Android 4.4 KitKat.

We are told to expect the Sony Xperia Z2 to wow and amaze the crowd at CES 2014 in Las Vegas, which gives us less than three months to entertain more speculation about the phone.

Thanks, Anonymous Tipster!

i choose not to believe this. the previous rumour is still ok.

5.5 inches and 540 ppi ? what the reso gonna be ? impossible it's 1920 x 1080, its gonna be beyond HD

[EDIT] another source from different website, this 1 seems more legit

QUOTE
The Xperia Z1 has yet to debut in retail stores, but the first rumors surrounding Sony's next Xperia Z2 flagship emerged last evening. And today, we have another fresh round of rumors, which sound more like an Xperia Z phablet (smaller than the Z Ultra) than the Z2. According to the new rumors, the Xperia Z2 will pack a larger 5.5-inch 2560 x 1600 display, a 3500 mAh battery and the Snapdragon 800 SoC.

We did some digging around, reached out to our own sources to find out that the Xperia Z2 is indeed real, but isn't coming anytime soon (might be announced in the next 6 months, but won't be available for purchase for anther 8-10 months). Also, the Xperia Z2 will pack a 5.2-inch 1080p display, which falls nicely in line with yesterday's rumors. While our sources are puzzled about this new 5.5-inch device, they are speculating a Galaxy Note III competitor in the works that is actually similar in size (the Z Ultra is a competitor to the Nexus 7, in terms of size), and that it might pack a 2560 x 1600 panel which was showcased by LG earlier this year.

IFA 2013 only ended a week ago, and we are already speculating about MWC and CES 2014. Phew, things keep getting heated up more and more with each passing day.

browse through the comments and found an explanation for the handheld twilight mode in Z1

QUOTE
HHT is actually a feature present on Sony Cybershot and Alpha/NEX cameras. Z1 is the first mobile device to have this feature. Basically It takes six shots in rapid succession using BIONZ image processing and Sony’s
compositing technology, combines them into one beautiful photo with vastly reduced noise and camera-shake blur.

all the night shots took by the reviewer in tht blog is using superior auto mode. wonder what magic it can produce with HHT

reviewer's word on the display (from the sg blog above)

QUOTE
The Xperia Z1′s display does well in terms of brightness and presents rich, vibrant colours and good contrast when viewed head-on. Some wash-out is evident when the display is viewed off-axis, but it is nowhere near as bad as it was on devices like the Xperia Z. HTC devices like the One and Butterfly S still feature the best LCD displays you can currently find on a smartphone, but the Xperia Z1′s display is nowhere near what I would call disappointing; it is a very good display that you will probably be happy with unless you’re incredibly discerning about display quality.

true.

and recap of RRP prices at each lunch.
X10 - RM2199
Arc - RM2099
Arc S - RM1899
S - RM1899
TX - RM1799

Xperia phone getting cheaper.. sounded like good news.. then, in 2013
Z- RM2199
ZU - RM2299

rclxub.gif Sony taking advantage of its popularity?

I've been xperia fan since X10 haha.
that era really not as many sony fans like how.
*
have to see the specs and materials of Z and ZU compared to previous flagships (S, TX)

during S and TX days sony is being criticized and not so popular because their phones are deem "not worthy" to be compared with flagships from other company because they lack the specs. They need to price their phone lower in order to sell. They cannot sell the S or TX at more than 2k because they know people will just look at the specs and go for samsung/htc straight away, they don't have the popularity as other companies to secure the sales as well.

for eg : when xperia S is released, samsung is already preparing to launch S3 (dual core vs quad core). when S3 already released people are hoping for a more suitable competitor from sony, in the end they launched TX which is still running on dual core, not to mention their screens during that era is worse than what they have now. in the end they're able to catch up with the release of Z, and with ZU and Z1 they're back in the competition

walao eh still got people arguing XZ1 photo post processing sux etc meh...

for me if it can at least match up with lumia high end series (925 / 1020), it's already good enough for me.

a good comparison photo of Z1 and 925 here. at least i can tell 925 produce sharper image, but color reproduction is better in Z1

for camera performance, i think it's better to have comparison photo. individual photo taken, all of them looks good to me. only by comparison can we be sure to tell the good and bad
*
imo la, photo quality is also up to each person's preference, same goes to the screen quality and design. One man's blood is another man's poison. Some might like heavy post processing and some don't

Its good to show and voice out your own preference, but learn to respect other people's choices as well. And of course in the end you're the one happy with your own choice.

I have to admit im so in love in z1 now any cons that it have doesn't bother me (unless its a real serious 1). For example i admitted i do hate the large bezels, and also the viewing angle issues. Since sony able to solve it in XZU y cant they get rid of it once and for all in Z1? doh.gif But it doesnt matter to me because i accept the cons

However i dont go around to other phone threads bashing other phones and also promoting Z1 like it have zero cons/the perfect phone.

When I watching in small pic, Xperia Z1 show better and color much accurate also with better light control.

But I notice it is not the case when I download the full size image, Nokia 925 is much sharpen and clear than Z1, noticeable in that Bus photo and that parking lot. The obvious over processing issue is happening here again's details is gone.

Under Bus photo, it is obvious the wording SBS-Transit wording is blur at Sony Z1.
user posted image

Under parking lot, it is obvious Z1 details and sharpness is lessor when compare with Nokia 925.
user posted image

I am not bashing, I just see it in details.

For me details and sharpness is much important, color can easier be change by editing it, but not the blur and not sharp details.
*
Appreciate your comments, at least u explain it in details otherwise some fanboy gonna blindly label u as bashing tongue.gif

However i have to say, for an evryday casual point to shoot camera Z1 is more than good, no? I mean who took photos using a phone and examine the photo in detail in full reso? Most ppl will jz snap, edit here and there and proceed to fb or instagram. Do you agree?

depends on whether the phone come with the LTE antenna. if got antenna but it's lock/blocked probably u can root it to unblock it. but if there's no antenna present no chance for u to get LTE

it's selling for RM2299 in Groupon
http://www.groupon.my/deals/national-deal/...261&a=715827970

So i'm pretty sure Z1 LTE won't go beyond that price point...if not, Sony's sales is gonna get hurt real bad
*
well you won't know whether there's some stupid marketing guy in sony who is either too confident with their product or not aware of the current market

although Z1 not meant as a competitor to note 3 but i agree shouldn't price it higher than note 3

Sorry. I don't quote understand what you guys are talking. So is this losslesszoom a good thing or what. I know optical zoom is best and digital zoom is basically useless. So how is this lossless zoom stand? Is it better than digital zoom?

optical zoom > lossless digital zoom > digital zoom

but the main disadvantage of optical zoom is size eg: S4 zoom
