Hi all, I intend to withdraw my cash via Maybank card visa from ATM while in Vietnam/

As of what I know, if we intend to withdraw cash overseas, we need to activate our overseas status in the Maybank ATM card first.
And the currency of MYR to Vietnam Dong will follow the currency exchange rate of the bank itself (in my case, maybank).

But, I have tried to search for mybank currency exchange rate but just couldn't find it.

can somebody enlighten me please? I was wondering whether Maybank has its own currency exchange rate.

Thanks.

i heard countries like vietnam uses USD widely. Why dont u bring USD from Malaysia for ur expenses over there?

Also, do note that withdrawing ur cash from ATM overseas usually more expensive than changing at money changer in Malaysia.

got more queries can PM me. I dont do any business from here. Just an experienced traveller.

Thanks for your reply.

Well, does that mean Maybank currency exchange rate is slightly higher than the exchange rate in money changer in Msia? How do I get to know the exchange rate?

thats not really what i meant.

what i meant was bcos what you have in ur maybank account now is in ringgit, so when u go to other countries and withdraw the foreign currency (e.g. VND, AUD, USD), the rate will be higher.

Its just like changing money in Vietnam money changer.

u can get Vietnamese Dong rate from money changers in Malaysia (they dont usually show it on the board since its not a common currency). I have no idea how to get rates for VND from Maybank.

May I know what's the purpose of you going vietnam?

You mean withdrawing money in Vietnam via ATM is akin to change my MYR money to Dong in vietnam money changer?

Well, if that is the case, there must be a rate of currency exchange, right? will be be worthy to change in Malaysia or while in Vietnam?

I am going there for 29 days without visa, for a voluntary program.

Well, if that is the case, there must be a rate of currency exchange, right? will be be worthy to change in Malaysia or while in Vietnam? i believe better change in malaysia. futhermore, u cant sell Ringgit Malaysia outside malaysia. means, u cannot bring ur RM50 note and sell it to money changer in Vietnam to get Vietnamese Dong

There is no money changer in Vietnam for changing MYR? blink.gif

Just check the maybank currency exchange rate, http://www.maybank2u.com.my/mbb_info/m2u/p...s/BTRE-Treasury

I could not find Vietnam Dong in the list, does that mean there is no exchange rate for Vietnam Dong aka we could not withdraw cash in vietnam using ATM via Maybank card?

bcos MYR cant be traded outside malaysia. basically tak laku outside malaysia. so hard to sell MYR at money changer in vietnam.

first of all, i dont know if maybank actually has presence in vietnam, and whether facilities like Cirrus, Plus can be used in vietnam with maybankcard.

my advise is to bring USD, because its much safer and if u really need to change to local currency, U WILL DEFINITELY WONT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS selling USD in vietnam. whistling.gif

Yup...better bring some USD with you. The unofficial street exchange rate between USD and VND is about 1USD to 20-22 thousand dong. In Hanoi and HCMC, even some small shops accept USD and they return the change in dong to you.

Ok, thanks for your info, I intend to change RM400 to Dong and RM300 to USD. If not enough for my 1 month spending, then only I withdraw from Maybank ATM.

I phoned Maybank and the staff told me there are some Maybank branches in Hanoi, if one wish to withdraw money, they need to look for ATM with PLUS or MEPS or VISA logos.

The currency exchange rate will depend on the ATM bank in Hanoi that you withdraw with a service charge of RM12 per withdrawal. Not sure about the rate of exchange. But that is what I know from Maybank customer service.
