QUOTE(TristanX @ Jan 25 2023, 09:49 AM) Yup. i3 is more than enough. You will need at least i3-10100 for streaming server though. 4 cores is minimum requirements. Wow i3-10100 budget quite constraint, btw tq for suggestion and feedback might need to save more then

QUOTE(myroy @ Jan 25 2023, 09:43 AM) Hi guys I just discovered this tread I am planning to buy synology previously, but after research I think better if i do DIY style (buy second had used PC and install TrueNas) And I require good enough processor and at same time energy efficient What do you think about i3 4160? is it ok? Planning to use it as my home Plex server & media storage Also, make sure your CPU model supported Intel Quick Sync for transcoding feature. Generally that should be available except for for F series CPU.

Planning to use it as my home Plex server & media storage Prebuilt NAS is energy efficient as that is one of the thing it was designed for. Custom built you need to research which CPU, MOBO and PSU that will be energy efficient. As for Plex usage, if you need it to decode first before stream, make sure to get CPU that support hardware decoding. Older CPU does not support hardware decoding for HEVC/h.265
