Maybe it's that one in every 10 years day of offerings from Genting Casino.

Usually those deals require big offerings and cannot default. That is why Genting prosperous.

Is the Bus Driver OK? He is the only person who can testify what happened. Maybe he was on the phone or something?

I though Drivers usually survive becoz they usually has the 1st hand info to take self preservative actions. Now the company will be blaming the driver instead of badly maintained & overloaded bus...

RIP.

They didn't put cardboard or something between the rope & rim, as the rim is made of metal and inside might be sharp, not a good way to do it.

I don't think so. Even if there is the vehicle would need to cut tru opposite cars to reach there because the direction of the downhill around that area. There is however a small area where you can park your car. It's straight so it's not a runoff area. Runoff areas are usually long uphill slopes that sits beside the mountain side.

QUOTE(RattleSnaKe @ Aug 21 2013, 08:52 PM)
I thought Genting downhill section have runoff areas for you to crash into instead of rolling down mountain.

It's not about the wall's height, didn't you see the whole part of the wall already gone? The bus weight at least 5 tons. How thick you think a wall can absorb such impact?

QUOTE(Boldnut @ Aug 21 2013, 09:01 PM)
honestly trying to improve the driver attitude is much harder than just fixing the road. I no pro is wall, but 3-4 feet high should stop the bus falling off the cliff. nowadays genting one is like 1 feet only  shakehead.gif I think bicycle also can ram over.

This bus needs to run on highways, so i don't think passengers are allowed to stand for obvious safety reasons (traveling over 90km/h). Not sure if such city buses are allowed to travel on highways also.

You see KL-Klang buses, got use these City Buses?

QUOTE(Kampung2005 @ Aug 21 2013, 09:07 PM)
As far as I know, this thing is not illegal as there is no legal requirement on this matter. Plus the bus actually has hand grabs for standing passengers too.

That said, time to look at such aspects such as bus, driver or even having taller wall on the edges of the road.

That kind of length is not enough for a heavy moving vehicle to slow down, at the end of the ram is also wall & ravine?

QUOTE(hackwire @ Aug 22 2013, 12:08 AM)
i didn't know there's an emergency escape ram. it really dangerous for heavy vehicles due to tremendous braking. i experience lost of brake before but its temporary. brake is usually the main problem .

Handbrake is the same brake as pedal brake just for the back wheels, so maybe not the brake pad but the brake hydraulics overheated?

QUOTE(jAkUn @ Aug 22 2013, 12:30 AM)
haha! agreed!
my brake overheat ady when i was downhill, before reaching the post before the roundabout at goh tong.
when i realized it, i have to downshift to gear 2, to gear 1 just to get the stall, and shift it back to gear 2, keep pressing the brakes, eventhough the grip is not totally lost, it keeps going, after the sharp S corner reaching the guard post, i pull the handbrake, wait till the bump slows us down, and i managed to stop on the left side road. wait till half an hour, test for few metres, and drive slowly. really sked during that time.

since then, i always go for mid-end, not cheap, nor inexpensive brake pad. keep my disc skimmed if bengkok.

but some cars only have 1 auto gear, so how?

QUOTE(SnoWFisH @ Aug 22 2013, 04:30 PM)
So far I always use 2nd gear, 3rd gear at most....just go slow and steady nvm.....engine are made of steel and metal after all, won't ko so easily one.

if ur brakes are still drum brakes...better be extra careful...

you burn the pads faster if you don't brake hard enough, it's like Clutch pads, if you keep balancing the clutch to stay firm on uphill it gets burned faster than when you fully engage the clutch.

QUOTE(LNB1 @ Aug 22 2013, 04:33 PM)
go easy with the brakes, press brake and release..wait 2 or 3 seconds to allow the pads to cool down and press brake and release, don't hold on brakes for more than 30 seconds..
these are skills you learned after driving downhills for so many years, not something you get to learn in any of Malaysian driving school  wink.gif

With money anything is possible, all the need is drill tunnels tru the mountain. Still possible to derail the whole train.

But what i meant was some electric cars like Mitsubishi & Nissan only has 1 gear, so how to lower gear when down hill?

But then usually trains via mountain connect more than just 2 destination so it's not economically sound. Cable car is much faster.

QUOTE(vuetnam @ Aug 22 2013, 09:10 PM)
I wanna ask yr opinion... if Penang can have a train or tram to the Penang Hill, is it possible the Malaysia Govt build a special train up to Genting Highlands and Cameron Highlands?
