both are almost the same body size with tilting screen, big difference is the sensor and the amount of lens that both company provides...
so here the my opinion goes, i will recommend to go for the bigger sensor which in this case is the Sony, which theoretically will perform better DOF control and iso performance, and Sony is super-smart to merge a APS-C into such a small size, comparable to GF6, so why not get a bigger sensor? and the grip on the Sony is far more better than the tiny grip on gf6 if you have a bigger hand on the other hand, both company provide lens adapter such as OM lens to M43, so you can fully utilize the full frame OM lens; many third party provide vast range of adapter for Sony, such as M39 M42 lens adapter to Sony, go and Google about it if you interesting to mount legendary lens such as the Helios 58mm F2. interesting that you can find almost every lens adapter for Sony if you want compact, then pick the GF6 with the 14-42mm X lens which is more pocketable than the 5R. As 5R is a APS-C camera, so the lens has to be in bigger size when compared to GF6 ones. it might be a little awkward when pick up the 5r with the big 18-55mm lens i might little bias toward sony as it has larger sensor and technically it sound better. previously i owned a Lumix GF3 and i kinda struggle when AF night time and ISO performance give me headache, but i never forget how small it fit in my hand. now is GF6, number has grow in a fold and ISO is not really a big deal then. in the end you need to try out and hands on both, see which camera feel you like, if the camera grip is not nice, you would not want to pick up to shoot so often. cheers! some shot from my old GF3, also can bokeh ma with the kit lens ![]() summore pic » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

I have tried both a couple of days ago. Nex5r takes better quality of photos, while GF6 has better outlook and better screen. Really headache to pick either one. Anyway, your GF3 can still take decent quality of photos. |

sony stuff has a special attraction makes you just wanna buy it, just like love in first sight, it happens to me when the NEX C3 came out, i was like omg, how come this camera is so small!
panasonic is the other hand worked very hard to extend its market, extend to younger shooter but i feel somehow still shadowed below olympus...but if you take GF6, i rather recommend GX1, is a older model but somehow it live up to its expectation and smaller in size |

If you intend to use legacy lens, NEX is the way to go. The crop factor of 1.5x vs 2.0x can make life difficult in certain condition. Also the focal plane to lens distance in the NEX is further making adaption easy. As much as you can see heaps of both adapters in the market, you will find more options (ability to convert a wider choice of lens) more for one than than the other. |

my 2 cents
i'm both a NEX and Lumix GH user. Though i love my NEX system the downside is the selection of lenses can't compare with micro four thirds, although there's more participation from others like Zeiss and Sigma it is still quite limited. Nevertheless i still love the compactness, color, image quality and clean ISO capabilities of the NEX system. |

QUOTE(888kb24 @ Aug 21 2013, 09:47 AM) Dear all, NEX's APS-C sensor, needless to say, is way larger than GF6's M4/3 sensor. In fact, it's the same sensor that was used in Sony a57, Nikon D7000, Pentax K5 & K5-II. These are all well-known models that feature incredible image quality. The 16-50mm lens although has disadvantages on distortion and poorer corner sharpness, it's focal length is very useful for daily shots and landscape. I am considering to get a semi pro camera, deciding between Sony NEX 5R and Panasonic Lumix GF6. Been looking in google, nex 5r seems to be the better one. What do you all think? Kindly advise. Your advice is very much appreciated. Thanks GF6 on the other hand has more lenses, but you won't probably buy all of them, so the statement of NEX having less lenses doesn't really affect in reality. I personally think that those good M4/3 lenses are quite overpriced. You really need those good Zuiko lenses or Leica-certified lenses to make your GF6 stand out from NEX. |

But 1 thing not to forget is that Lumix usually has 2 years warranty while Sony only has 1 year or 1 year 3 months. Warranty is very important to me.

Another BIG PLUS for buying NEX-5R would be the unlimited Sony workshops!!Food photography workshop, portraiture photography workshop, street photography workshop, studio photography workshop... etc etc I found lots of people dunno what to shoot after buying their expensive cameras, no such thing for Sony users. |
