I am new to headfi, actually looking for something I can use in the office.
I did google around and found only x3 and x5 are player, while other models are just amp or dac/amp that require computer as source. IMO, using computer as source might not be good idea because sometime computer will be very slow as doing office works, which might disturb the music playback smoothness.
Thus I am looking forward to dedicated player to make thing simple. And here is some questions on the X3 and X5;
(1) Are they sure better than my Samsung Note II or Note III as music player to headphone? I know it is stupid question, but actually the most important. If not much different, no point right?
(2) Since the X3 and X5 never mention about the headphone impedance supported, how's the performance as compare to the amp? Example E07K? Or I should get those E07K and use hand phone as source?
(3) With X3 and X5, can I assume better to get Audio Technical ES7 (32 ohm) or EW9a (42 ohm) rather than Audio Technical HD600 or HD700?
(4) Where can I test them? You know any shop? Prefer shopping mall if possible...
Hope some people can take some time to explain to newbies...

There are more standalone music player, Have you heard sansa clip, it is a bang for buck PMP ? Probably you might want to check out this brand, Cowon (Korean based company well known for their PMP). Cowon is hard to find in Malaysia. Sony do sell PMP too. Ibasso which would cost alot.
1) It depends on your preference, but i would say, yes for me. Coz, samsung kind of have warm type of sound signature (I have only tried with S3 with WM1811,But i do know it works with note lineup as well.) If you are using the amp/DAC like E18, the sound would be much darker, much airy (i mean by music notes can be hear clearly, wont muffle up with the mid or bass). As you know, smartphone manufacture would cramp all the feature into that 5 inch smartphone. So the part they used might be cheaper, or not so high quality as a standalone DAC/AMP.
2,3)I'm not sure about it myself, i only use phone as my PMP.
4)I'm not sure either, maybe Jaben? But they only carry certain model of Fiio.. I do know they have Ibasso and sony and more..
I do know this shops carries fiio product, but its located in Kuching.
If others find me giving wrong info, feel free to correct me =]
