Hi all F&Fners,
One question that deserves another thread on its own. Recently heard the suprima is ANCAP 5 star. Then, is our local suprima ANCAP 5 stars or exported version?
Proton Suprima, ANCAP 5 stars???

QUOTE(Selectt @ Aug 19 2013, 03:02 PM) Hi all F&Fners, Local. The Preve Aussie export version was tested 5 stars in ANCAP. The Suprima S has the same safety specs as the Preve Australia edition, that's why they claim it achieves that. Hopefully the Preve will be upgraded too (the Premium is missing 4 airbags and ESP), the CFE needs 2 more airbags. Assuming that the rest of the car in terms of safety relevant stuff is identical). One question that deserves another thread on its own. Recently heard the suprima is ANCAP 5 star. Still no solid evidence that for our local market is ANCAP 5 stars. They only mentioned Proton Suprima is certified ANCAP 5 stars.

The local version should be the same as the export version (6 airbags), unlike Preve (4 airbags local, 6 airbags export).please correct me if i m wrong. Therefore and ANCAP rating that the Suprima attains in OZ should be applicable to the local version. |

If its not 5 Star here, they won't include it in the presentation and showroom also LOL.
Preve won't get the improved specs as the Suprima unless they come out with a Preve facelift. Cos Preve is different from Suprima according to them |

Bloody back button on the mouse...so should we suspect also???? Those cars are massively downgraded when they come to Malaysia. The Suprima isn't. The Preve Australian edition got 5 stars, the Suprima in Malaysia will have the same specs as the Preve in Australia, so it should also get the same rating, unless they downgraded it. But Proton probably hasn't, otherwise they wouldn't be so confident (imagine what happens if the car is tested and only gets 4 stars? Even more Proton jokes...) As for the Vios... it managed to get 4 stars for frontal impacts. But side impacts weren't tested yet, and there is no way it will perform well there. I'd expect something between 0 and 2 stars for side impacts, which means the overall rating should be downgraded. This post has been edited by kadajawi: Aug 19 2013, 05:58 PM |

Oh, and before someone comes with GOA body... Toyota must have been to Goa a lot to come up with that marketing rubbish. The Avanza managed to get 3 stars in CNCAP, which basically means it's useless. They test at low speeds. Any car can pass.

Vios only managed to get 4-star. Suprima obviously pawns it. For the new model that's about to be launched, no official NCAP rating yet. http://www.aseancap.org/cartestresult/AseanNCAPHondaCity.pdf http://www.aseancap.org/cartestresult/Asea...PFordFiesta.pdf City & Fiesta also pawns Vios... |

Inilah kata kata seorang warganegara Australia.....
For some delusional Malaysians, they worship it as 9th wonder of automotive world. Pity them, due to extortionate local car tax structure, Proton cars there become artificially cheaper while other cars made more expensive. Pathetic! That's why any smart Australians should avoid Proton at all cost! |

based on brochure, it shows our Suprima S is ANCAP 5 stars. they actually asked MIROS and another independent test centre to test the car. then the result, they sent it to ANCAP to get it certified.
sos - Sos Safety: The new Proton Suprima S model also features a load of safety features such as anti-trap power windows, six airbags (premium Preve sedan has only four airbags locally), ABS and ESC with Traction Control. Interestingly, Proton Executive Chairman YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Haji Mohd Khamil Jamil firmly claimed that the 2013 Proton Suprima S scored a Five-Star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). However, we know that to be tested by the ANCAP, a car must first be on sale in the market. ANCAP testers then buy a car of the model they wish to test, and perform the examination independently. However, Proton managed to earn its Suprima S’s Five-Star ANCAP rating very cleverly through the use of independent test facilities. The results of those tests were then submitted to the ANCAP along with those of the Proton Preve, and from then the ANCAP had deemed it right to award the Suprima S with the Five-Star rating. The structural similarities of the Proton Preve and the Suprima S helped the hatchback receive this award. |

QUOTE(travelmate2440 @ Aug 21 2013, 09:52 AM) Inilah kata kata seorang warganegara Australia..... IMO, it is the same everywhere. You get one stuff cheap, you get another thing expensive. For some delusional Malaysians, they worship it as 9th wonder of automotive world. Pity them, due to extortionate local car tax structure, Proton cars there become artificially cheaper while other cars made more expensive. Pathetic! That's why any smart Australians should avoid Proton at all cost! Here are stuff which is more expensive in Australia than in Malaysia. This is just from googling: http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/...2-1226677641006 http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2...lia-cost-living http://www.theguardian.com/education/2013/...ive-place-study http://www.smh.com.au/travel/blogs/the-bac...0326-2gr6q.html http://www.news.com.au/money/cost-of-livin...v-1226630603809 Part of it is due to the Australian economy is very dependent on natural resources, and part of it is due to the strict food control. Cannot bring any stuff into Australia, they just throw it away at customs. That way Australia can maintain the high prices. Been there, so I know. Yes, Malaysians pay a lot for cars, but we purchase it once every 5-10 years. We don't purchase McD once every 7 years. Labour is cheap. I think it is more of give and take. Some things more expensive, some things less expensive. Back to cars. Here is what happening to Australia cars ATM: http://www.news.com.au/business/holden-bos...i-1226698663952 http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-a...y-1226702474062 http://news.drive.com.au/drive/motor-news/...0823-2sgrt.html Sorry if Malaysians are being patriotic and willing to show support for national brand. If you don't do that, that Ford/Holden Australian future is something Malaysia will become. You cannot blindly put faith in a business, that goes with Proton as well. Actually improvements are coming at a time when people have deserted proton for Toyota, Honda etc. Proton waking up from slumber. If Honda, Toyota, Nissan continue with their current trend, they too will relinquish their market position to Kia/Hyundai. It also shows, Aussies don't care about Holden/Ford that much then. Maybe its the Aussie culture or maybe that is just pure capitalism. Or, Holden and Ford not really Aussie made products in the first place. Both come from US. So if they die also, no problem for Australia, except the factory workers/people directly involved in those brands. Also, AFAIK, no car company, local/overseas has closed shop in Malaysia yet. I may be wrong though. So Top Gear Australia is not that smart using a SNR3, that goes to the thousands of Jumbuck owners. It is easy to criticize others, but make sure you have points to back it up. Otherwise, someone will come and dismantle those points. |

The cost of living is high there. Same like UK. 1 hour can already buy 2 big macs. But everything else is expensive. |

In the uk, cars don't cost that much but their insurance is so extensive and will take into account every imaginable facet of your life like ur age, colour of your car, your job, where you park your car, your street address which in turn can spike the premiums.. Petrol is no cheap either and with congestion charges and all.. When I lived there, the then labour gov wanted to tax cars based on the amount of km's it travelled as ways to reduce carbon footprint. It can be summarised that the running cost of owning a car can only go northwards there

So going to a restaurant... prepare to spend at least RM 40 (cooking yourself is affordable though). Calling a contractor? Forget about it, fix your damn house yourself The cost of living is high there. Same like UK. 1 hour can already buy 2 big macs. But everything else is expensive. |

Dear all,
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but just pretend for a moment that all things being equal, and Proton is selling a C segment car as with every other vendor. And at most, Proton is only receiving a mere '30%' advantage from import duty (http://www.maa.org.my/info_duty.htm). And lets set a constant of 120k for most C sec car. Proton * 1.3 = 120000 Proton = 92300 So technically, Proton has a leeway to jack it up to 92k and pack more stuff in and bring more destruction to their opponents. Since critics are always saying Proton got ridiculous advantage. But of course, all things being equal. This calc is most probably...terribly wrong in more than 1 way. Please focus the bashing on the math and not the person, shouldnt be that hard right....right? |

QUOTE(Doggystyle @ Aug 28 2013, 01:24 AM) Dear all, AFAIK Proton shouldn't be getting any tax advantages over ASEAN produced cars (i.e. Vios, Almera, ...). The only advantage (and it is a big one) they get is that the development costs are in parts covered by the government. Without it Proton probably couldn't operate, because they can't spread out the costs to enough cars to be profitable. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but just pretend for a moment that all things being equal, and Proton is selling a C segment car as with every other vendor.
