Guys, ive been surveying numbers of folding bike since my friend jokingly said that I should get a folding bike since Im going to travel Shah Alam - Kelantan every now and then. When I take a look, suddenly Im really interested with getting a folding bike for real :3

Im looking on something with budget below RM700, going to use it for going back and forth my class in Uni. So I guess a budget reliable one should be enough.

Please recommend me which model/brand/shop that i can buy off that could provide delivery to Kelantan, thanks!

Something below RM700 is a bit tough unless it's a second hand one. With that budget, you can get Trinx or XDS 7 speed. You won't get an 8 speed for less than RM700. You can get an Aloeca or Oscar Imagine but don't expect much from it. I suggest you try to find a second hand unit. A good second hand one is better than a lousy new one. Know my meaning?  whistling.gif

Thanks for the opinion, i understand that and i do apply that in buying computer parts tho laugh.gif

but since im new to this, I dont know where to start looking for the used unit tho, search around mudah and lelong doesn't give me much clear answer/choice as well.

During our trip to Ipoh, there was 2 Kalaqs and they have no problem riding the bikes even on the 60 km ride we had. It's never the bike (that is if you take care of it). It all depends on yourself, you are the engine of any bikes. No point having 10K bike but can't cycle even 20km. I have seen many. I have seen also a guy who owns 3 bikes and ferries them on rooftop racks and drives to Gap with all three but rides only one. Once on the peak ( a mere 8km from Gap) and then carries his bike over his shoulders at the clock tower for a victory snapshot. As I say again, it our legs! Here's a shot of the 2 Kalaqs. Even a SYT can ride 60 km on a Kalaq!

For Kalaq, you just have to dry and clean your bike more carefully and it's a bit heavier as it is a steel frame foldie.  icon_rolleyes.gif

thanks for the detailed concern, but what i more concern is the build. If it only need more proper cleaning then it should be good for me smile.gif

and I saw kalaq Q3 and Q5. what's the different?

Kalaq Q5 has disc brakes while Q3 has V brakes.

but weight is like 14 kg!  I think its a bit heavy to carry up stairs and around the LRT / train stations.
Anyone knows where I can get a good price for a new XDS 16 inch foldable?  XDS FA16 .  Last price I got was RM750
*
between v brake and and disc brake which is better?

anyway, thanks for the detail.

that XDS is good? where to get one? got any link drool.gif

I saw some that I can afford in the GW Cycle blogshop, brand named GTA and Nakxus (labeled under XDS). I wonder if these brand are reliable tho, I dont want something that later spoil easily.

lets say Ill increase my budget up to BELOW RM1000, what's the best bet?

Sorry for non-stop question tongue.gif

I see, thanks will consider that thumbup.gif

QUOTE(H2D @ Sep 17 2013, 05:09 PM)
i heard some dr hon entry model dont have quick release wheels,
that is kinda unacceptable... so take note of that...

how do u intend to use ur bike?

r u a heavyweight??
*
Well, basically im going to use it mainly as a transportation method going back and forth my class and rent house,

other than that just a casually ride around my place laugh.gif

if you mean by heavyweight as my weight, im damn thin weight around 57KG but 178cm tall XD

EDIT: I just dont get what the use of quick release wheels btw doh.gif
search around google, it has something to do with the folding speed?

featherweight good for bicycles... Manny Pacquiao  thumbup.gif

since u wana cycle to class..
if u can bring into lecture hall n put at the back will be good.
so u need to have one that is as compact as possible...
*
more like underweight to me laugh.gif

yeah, getting the bike with me into the class, that what Im thinking of actually if its possible : brows.gif

QUOTE(adriankhoo153 @ Sep 17 2013, 05:24 PM)
Quick release wheels explain it all in words. If I were to rephrase it will be quickly release your wheels for storage, dismantle etc hence quick release.
Yup, Vybe C7 doest have QR on their wheel but how many of u seriously use it?  tongue.gif
*
I see, never had any folding bike so didn't know which part is it. Is it for front wheel or both back and front?

found this one over FB for RM780.

Hey guys, been 2 days im riding the foldies back and forth to class and love it so much that I even ride in formal attire lol thumbup.gif

anyway, instead of looking weird people do say that somehow it look normal and even pretty cool. rclxms.gif

not a single regret on purchasing this foldies rclxm9.gif

quick question tho, is there anything bad if I regularly fold the bike tho? like a broken clamp/hinge or anything could happen?

from having an experience of riding bmx a lot beofre, i would say that the feel of my current foldies and my last bmx are just about the same. even my current foldie are much lighter than i remmber how my bmx was and it temp me really hard to try simple things like bunny hop and run down the stairs laugh.gif

still, didn't dare to do it since I just got my foldie recently so i might wait for another couple of months maybe before doing those things sweat.gif

I wouldn't dare to say the same as BMX geometry is much different. Moreover, foldie has hinge and bolt smack right in the frame hence that will be the weakest point that I am most afraid. Also due to the latch on the headset.  sweat.gif
*
true, but once I tried adjust the seat and handle to suit my best preference and when it low enough its not much of a difference from bmx tho.
but foldies are foldies so I better ride it like a foldies~ not to mention that im just a newbie also laugh.gif

yeah the weak point what scare me off from trying some crazy idea sweat.gif

Guys, my friend just received his Dahon vybe C7A. and it seems like the gears not shifting well and its not smooth too.

On the ride, chain seems like grinding with the gears.

tomorrow will contact the shop back :/
