Hi, glad I found this forum.

I'm planning to buy a foldable bike for my son. Saw a Hummer replica online. Just wanna know, what's the diff between the ori and replica? Sorry for the noob Question.
*
I tested both original and replica, and decided on the original, as I didnt feel that the replica is solid enough for any off-roading, but should be ok for spins around neighbourhoods (if that's the purpose, I suggest more compact folables like tern or dahon). The parts on the replica are really cheap stuff, and you might be looking to upgrade parts very soon. Notwithstanding that, the part on the montague is not great in any sense, but at least decent enough for a comfortable.

btw, montague frames comes with lifetime warranty if you are the 1st owner (for assured warranty on this, you might need to buy from authorised distributors).

take a pinch of salt on the above commenrts, as I'm also a noobie on cycling thumbup.gif

Does the amount of air in the tyre affect the energy required to cycle? What is the optimum air pressure for least tiring cycling?
*
Yes it does! Also it depends on your weight. Look at the tire walls. It's mentioned there the minimum to the maximum pressure. Use the setting in between the 2 figures and also where you find it more comfortable to ride. Too hard, ithe ride is bumpy and harsh but easier to pedal. Too low the ride becomes harder but more comfy but grips the road better. There's no fix rule, only rule is pump within the mention pressure. icon_rolleyes.gif

you can try searching the web for brands like Tyrell and Tern and Dahon. Tyrells are hand made, while the high end Terns will meet your specs of < 10 kg, but comes at a price.

I have a cheaper china made foldie around 8kg plus, but its 16 inch wheels.. about RM2.8k

I have a fellow rider who toured China who bought the Jifo and rode the bike around Beijing. He brought it back and got it over tax free! According to him after conversion it is approximately RM1700. His is the single geared one but there's another blus colored model which is multi speed! Check Dahon website. It's available in Thailand and Singapore. Like I said, our distributors here for Tern and Dahon is hopeless! blush.gif Can order from Taobao but the transportation should be about RM350 to RM400. Let me know if you want to order, I also want to tumpang, hehehehe.

Wow that Jifo looks like a little kid's bike......don't think I'll be keen to ride that, haha

Unless you are using your bike to take trains and buses, I can't see how a couple more kilos will make any difference. If you want speed, you won't buy a foldie anyway.

Tern/dahon has lightweight model but cost 8k above.

To make it lightweight below 10k, you got to remake the part using titanium. There is not much titanium ready made part, so u got to cnc yourself.

Someone modded a Tern P9 to less than 10kg before. Just slightly less! Original weight was approx. 12 kg. Components upgrades are, (01.) Lite Pro seatpost, (02.) lighter seat, (03.) litepro wheelset, (04.) carbon fibre handlebar (05.) Schwalbe Durano tires (06.) Ultegra crank and bottom bracket (07.) Ultegra FD and RD (08.) Ultegra chain and for the Ultegra upgrade, you need a 10 speed road bike flat bar shifter. Approximately another 3.5K modifications. That's for 2 kg less on the weight. Worthy or not, that's up to you. tongue.gif

Componentry in bicycles are not just about weight. Better to get good components for a price rather than to lessen weight. When components gets lighter, there's a trade off! hmm.gif Usually lighter components do not last as long as their heavier counterparts, unless off course alternative expensive materials are used. Components like Dura Ace are light but they are not as robust as the 105s. Also professional cyclist use it because they need to win and off course they are sponsored as well. tongue.gif Just like me, I wanted to lighten my seat post, as Dahon uses seat post pump which is heavy and I don't need pump in all my Dahon's. So I choose a lighter one and it cost me 200 bucks and you know what? It's creaking because they are light, they are not as tough as the other heavier ones. There's alway pros and cons. Choose wisely because a 2 kg improvement in weight will cost a bundle and it's not really that advantageous anyway. Your breakfast loading before ride will sometimes amount to the same weight, hahahahaa. tongue.gif

My suggestion, if you want lighter bikes, just go for road bikes.! nod.gif

I got the bike back from Penang already. Meet myak9 too. The bike is still not ready as it will be transformed into a 2 X 10 speed Ultegra groupset. The original 3 X 8 speed will be taken out. Anyone wants to upgrade their foldie to24 speed? I can mod it from the parts taken out from the velo.
