Hey guys, my friend will be shipping my Nexus 5 from Canada. Is it 100% confirmed taxed 10% for that? I could ask him to write a lower price so the tax will be less severe or is there any workaround for it?

Once shipped, the tax is already imposed on your Nexus 5 biggrin.gif

I will and WILL avoid shipping from Canada at all cost.. crazy tax  sweat.gif

Have already made the purchase, so there's no point of return anymore. Even if taxed 10%, it will still come out cheaper than other AP sets here.
I heard tablet, GPS devices are not taxed (only phone communication does). Does it help if I write GPS device or mini tablet instead?

the Invoice will state there Nexus 5 16/32GB phone category. You can't request Google to alter the invoice. Not their policy to do so
*
But it will go through my friend, surely I can alter the package and strip off the invoice or whatever.

Just managed to dig this up. Go to the page below, under search criteria change to "item description" and search for "phone". It will say no import duty/taxes for "telephones for cellular networks or for other wireless networks".

There is ABSOLUTELY NO tax/duties on mobile phones import into M'sia. At worse it is holdup at custom and you need pay RM 100 to apply Sirim permit to clear it
*
Then that is really easy. SIRIM permit can combine right? Mine is coming in in 4-5 weeks time, so anyone want to share?

The only incurred tax is shipped from PlayStore to your friend's Canada address.. Shipping back here doesn't impose tax but high chances getting slap with Sirim Approval sticker which Benny explained numerous of times.
*
If RM100, let it be. Still a small price to pay as I suspect the official set won't be very cheap also. Just need a hassle to go to custom.

Usually 1 unit will get "close one eye" treatment. Just hope it doesn't get stucked at Custom. Bloody hell place
*
LOL, been there before when my stepper motors got held up there for no reason. Hopefully I don't need to go there though. It's still okay, not too dreadful.

Guys, my AC adaptor make weird buzzing noise when switched on and if it is not connected to usb cable(with phone attached).  Did i get a faulty adaptor? The device charged like normal the only fault is the sound... Is this dangerous?
*
Just a not-that-good adapter. All adapters (phones, laptops etc. etc.) may suffer from buzz noise. Either you get over it, or look for another adapter. Just get a wireless charger la..

Which plan are you building to? What about the heater element and the "ink" ?

Thanks.

I got everything, assembled half way. Just need to do wiring (lazy...) and I should start calibrating and get it going.

It shattered just like that? Awww thats bad, way worst than gorilla glass 2 iircĀ  doh.gif
*
The second drop seems to have destabilise the edge of the screen a bit which causes the glass not being able to hold itself together. Nexus 4 would have given up by the 2nd test!

But Android Authority drop test never impress me, not scientific enough that a lot of random phenomena can happen and affect the result.

in real situation, scientific prove is useless bro. normal user dont care about that.

What I mean is that the drop test gives me no information in the end. The fall is too random to be of any value to reflect the dropability (I just made this word up!) nor to represent a good comparison to other phones (some of his drop tests are on different surfaces). There has been some other drop tests that come with a free-fall rig to make sure the contact angle is the same - at least phones are exposed to the same contact angle with the ground. Even then, how does that reflect real world survival? LOL!

Great. Just wondering where you're getting the heater and ink.

I will say source everything from outside, aliexpress.com is a good place to start finding. The ONLY thing you should source locally is the hardware, i.e. nuts, bolts, washers, shafts and stuff. Even power supply is cheaper if you get from China.

Maybe compiling the price from each region? (Sort of like "how can you get one" walkthrough)
