QUOTE(TechnoG @ Aug 12 2013, 12:30 AM)
I was initially very impressed by the phone itself, but after using a real demo unit and fiddling around with the OS, I find it rather you know..boring. tongue.gif that is why I dont want to inject so much money into it first, I'm only hopping onto the Win 8 bandwagon partly because it is made by Nokia and I love the HUD GPS thingy and also the fun loaded camera. sad.gif

if I can get used to it then prolly I would only go for a more higher end device, but right now I'm not willing to spend that much yet. Yup, around 500 range.
but the additional camera apps by Nokia, I really want to mess around with it. tongue.gif HERE maps is pretty important to me too since I'm a frequent traveller.

not really interested with the brand Samsung anyway. sad.gif

RM 500 can get Lumia 520 (RRP 529), might be cheaper if you get in on other phoneshop outside there.

But i suggest you stretch budget a bit and take Lumia 620, more feature rich compare to 520, Got here drive+ (navigation software that works on global, suits you when travelling to other country), 520 only got here drive, which only can be use in Malaysia only).

620 had front facing camera, 520 don't had.

Both had same camera (5MP).

620 don't support FM radio, 520 will have FM radio after amber + GDR2 update.

Due to 520 don't had Nokia's Clear Black display technology, 520 will had problem when viewing under sunlight, other Nokia models (620, 720, 820, 920, 1020) had clear black display technology added into the phone, making viewing screen under sunlight much easier.

But WPCentral report is 720P not 1080P, using Snapdragon S4 400.

Guess Nokia come out 1025 then only got 6"screen, 1080P

probably those that go for samsung would wan android

Probably their Galaxy Series is too famous in Malaysia compare to Activ series.

Also Samsung come out Activ series also like testing water only, not much effort in promoting/supporting it.

Means need to use 4G connection on windows phone? hmm.gif

You need to go to telco to get 4G Sim card (sign postpaid plan with them).

AFAIK, currently telco don't offer 4G for any prepaid sim card

not for 4g connection...
just normal use...cos my sim card cant be detect...while other can....
the sim card is cut from normal sim...
so is it possible the cut not good?
cos from what I saw, they cut 1 side touch the circuit already....
*
You can go to telco to request change micro sim for normal 3G usage.

For my sim card i also use normal sim that had been cut small. My phone work without any problem at all. Probably my sim card is use special tools to cut, not normal scissors.

what is others? hmm.gif hmm.gif

Other is the temporary file cached/stored in your phone, this is the other storage bug that people complain on windows phone 8 that file size keep expanding. Some manufacturer even come out a temporary solution by releasing own apps to try to fix it.

Amber/GDR2 update had fixed this issue, but how good the condition of fixing it is different on each phone.

QUOTE(darkbaby91 @ Aug 28 2013, 08:40 PM)
hello people,i have never used windows phone before because i only have phone that supports android, will it be awkward to change from android-based phone to windows os?

does wp comes with famous android-like apps like wechat, whatsapp, line, etc and utility apps like clean master and so on?
*
WP8 is still a OS that still under developing by Microsoft, so expect some of the Android's features will not found on WP8 (notification center, for example). OS is closed OS (not much customization can be done), OS is less hardware demanding (won't lag)

Wechat, whatapps, line, most of the basic social apps is available, except instagram (only had unofficial one, recently got one is quite good), youtube (google and microsoft had bad blood, so no official one by youtube, even microsoft developed apps had been block by google, but had plenty of unofficial apps with good function). Also no google service apps (google+, google maps) on WP8.

Waze is on beta testing before acquired by google, but since google had bad blood with microsoft, don't expect google will officially release on WP8 in neartime.

apps and Games also not much compare to android (total apps+games: 170,000 only), but some developer slowly migrate to WP8 after release their apps on ios + android.

Don't had candy crush, subway surfer, minion rush (minion rush is coming soon, announced by Gameloft)

For user that switch from android to WP8:

Flip to silence feature automatically enabled after your lumia 920 upgraded to Amber/GRD2 upgrade.

WPCentral had reported this update, but not sure what the changes since no changelog.

how can i remove it? i know it can be on lumia phone.but now im using htc 8x rclxub.gif
i dun even record any video also storage left 5gb doh.gif

This is not Lumia Phone problem, is WP8 punya bug, so other brand (samsung, htc) also got this bug.

Microsoft release GDR2 update will fix this bug (according to microsoft), the update already roll out and sent to manufacturer (Nokia, Samsung, HTC), manufacturer will release the update at their own discrete (need to do hardware testing, or bundle with their own firmware upgrade).

Nokia bundle GDR2 update with their amber firmware update and release it currently. Just don't know when HTC will release the update in Malaysia.

Yes. Maxis set also got. But i can't find the FM radio at Music there... maybe not completely updated.  hmm.gif

Don't know Maxis sets Lumia 520 also got amber update. blink.gif

Recently i got play a while Lumia 520 at Maxis Center.

At Extras+Info there, i didn't see a big "LUMIA AMBER" label on there. Thought the phone was still in GDR1/Portico (didn't check firmware and OS versison).

Maybe the phone didn't update extras+info system apps yet. hmm.gif

Nokia had update extras+info again.

This time they move the glance and touch settings out from display+touch systems apps, and put separately on Settings. And other fix and improvement

Now easy for people to find the both settings on next time.

Microsoft had release GDR2 to address the other storage issue that the files size keep on expanding, after update to GDR2, the size will shrink.

Now had to wait HTC to release GDR2 update for WP8.

Is it worth to buy with 200++ difference in price?
*
925's camera's lens is slightly better than 920, as Nokia manage to add extra 1 lens (6 lens) into camera housing.

925's display is using AMOLED display while 920 is using IPS display, so you definitely feel there is difference between both display. Both display's pixel resolution still the same.

925 is lighter weight and don't had built-in wireless charging coil, you need to buy extra wireless charging shell if you wish to use Nokia's wireless charging pad. 925 also thinner compare to 920.

925 had smaller internal storage space (16GB) compare to 920 (32GB), both model had no SD card support.

925 use aluminium body shell while 920 use polycarbonate.

Other remain much the same, especially after 920 get amber update (same with the one 925 getting now)

Depend on your choice, as 925 is not an upgrade to 920, is just another option provided by Nokia for different user preference (especially those people that complain on 920's weight).

FYI 920 is even heavier than current Galaxy Note II.
