Luckily the Koreans are not like us or else Elantra would be vulgar language in Hokkien (his dixx big). KlA Cerato would be (Kiasi lah tu).

Simple car name also bash non stop.

I also wonder why they never named it Preve hatch, or Preve sports back or something. Changed to some brand that sounds like a loaf of bread or some canned product. It even could be a sub brand of some engine oil or petrol. Suprimak kau.
*
VW also name their Sedan as Jetta & Hatch as Golf, why nobody ask them to name it Golf Sedan or Jetta Hatchback ?
Peugeot also name their sedan as 207 & hatch as 206 so why not 206 sedan.
Toyota also name their Sedan as Vios & hatch as Yaris, why not Vios Hatchback ?
Hyundai also i30 & Elantra, why not Elantra hatchback or i30 sedan, i40 & Sonata, why not i40 sedan or Sonata wagon.

The latest Jetta/Golf no longer share common platform i think.
*
Expect next Jetta using A6 / MQB platform as well.

The topic here is about name different between sedan & hatchback, I have shown P1 is not the only one even Big Car mfg do the same

These kiddo simply wanna find fault.

naming the car properly is the first good marketing step, in my opinion proton kinda fail in naming their car, suprima for a c-segment? that just seems inappropriate.

for a d or e-segment maybe its ok. naming a c-segment as suprima that just seems wrong
*
Atos Prime ? ....lol...A segment some more....

So Hyundai fail or not ?

Do you think it worth that price with all those features? Or should we look at different brand for that kind of price?
*
Definitely more worth it than Jayraptor N brand Forte EX kosong which is about the same price, Also very worth it compare to KIA Rio 1.4 (4AT), 24K cheaper than Cerato & Elantra 1.6.

it still sounds stupid to me even with Toyota or Honda infront of it ... yup but you see that the mirage or colt or lance is continued even the model is updated. Do we see Proton doing that ? i only see Proton keep changing the names with new model updates, no legacy or what ever. I think the management should follow Mazda, no need headache with names. Use Proton 1, Proton 2, Proton 3, easier for their brain to digest.
*
How about Sephia, Spectra, Forte, Cerato ? isn't that change name on every generation ?
or Elantra, Avante then back to Elantra.
What legacy then ?
So korean can our local car cannot ?
1, 2, 3 ya o think that's is the maximum u can remember.

Ya thats why i did not include Korean brands on legacy namings, instead one of fanboys got butthurt and hurling that if Korean brands can do that why cant Local brands ...

Korean Brands in whole are even newer than Proton down the history line, we cant basically expect Proton to go backward once again. They have been stagnant for a decade, in a goodwill i trully wished Proton to excel with at least solid model namings.

Just like when we hear of 5 series, we would know which car is that. That is what legacy namings does, if they keep on changing names then i am not sure when will they be able to establish a strong presence internationally.
*
Better check ur fact Hyundai start producing car in 1968 while KIA 1973, Proton first car rolled out in 1985, so who is earlier ? Mr. 123 ?

Didn't Saga was been used since 1985 which make that 28 years ? so how legacy u want them to be ? BMW start producing car since 1928, 5 series was known as BMW new class 1962-1971 only by 1972 it changed its name to 5 series.

Good 1, 2, 3, ?, 5 opps u missed out 4 ...lol. .. come on do some homework on auto industry history before bashing blind

Proton only qualified to be call as assembler at that time. Not until they have their own RnD unit, which Mitsubishi tak berapa suka.
Only in 2010 they start making car from scratch.
*
Hyundai was also producing Ford Cotina back in 1968, only by 1975 they come out with Pony which designed & engineered by a bunch of foreigners.

Sonata been Hyundai longest production car since 1985 were actually a Mitsubishi Galant initially.

Even the Theta engine is a Mitsubishi derived tech engine.

well if you like Proton coming up new names for each car models then so be it. I prefer legacy names, Saga and Satria is running on the legacy name and i dont see why other models can do that. Yup, Mr Homework guy, then kindly help me to findout why is the name Suprimo then ? Sounds ubber class ? I find Persona sounds better.
*
Why waste time upset over a name ? u can alway change the it to "Xin S 123" if u like, since u can buy a chrome wording in any accessories shop...lol...
Quite simple some model are sucess while some are not, usually car manufacturer will retain the name of those sucess model or what u call legacy, sometime they intend to sell 2 generation car at a same time, they would change one of the name.
Anyway what is in the name it is the car itself that we r concentrating, what bothered by the color of the dog/cat collar instead of the color of the dog/cat ?

Wrong pricing strategy, later might end up like inspira giving huge discount to clear stock. Better if Proton can provide more variant and let customer to choose base on their needs and budget.

Since Cerato also jump up 20K till 99K, so P1 just follow suit.

I know what it does. Usually comes in manual transmission because longer in neutral gear. In Auto, not sure why it is there, since you are not in N that long.

Thinking about it, at RM80k, it is actually reasonable value, tough people discussing the same topic in the kopitiam all say overprice laugh.gif

Proton now following the Kia/Hyundai model of the early 2000s. Give tons of stuff with extended warranty. Kia/Hyundai have moved on to directly fighting car makes for same market share. 5 years warranty is good enough for me. If problems cannot be fixed within first 3 years, then there is an inherent design flaw, so give 20 years also cannot fix.

The only thing left is to wait for the reviews. Especially the driving characteristics. Engine noise, sluggishness, pickup voiced by those with the CFE variant. If all cured, then I don't see any logic reason why would you buy the standard CFE over the HB model (unless you really need the boot space and hate the HB rear looks). Wait for the sedan goes through it's midlife facelift, then the sedan can be seen on par with the HB. What you see in the HB Premium, will cross over to the Sedan + whatever faults they find on the HB during its midlife facelift. Preve facelift 2014?
*
Even auto will still roll back a little bit in higher gradient, particularly CVT auto.

I don't remember Hyundai KIA given a lot of stuff during early 2000 Spectra, Sonata EF, Old Elantra, Matrix, Getz, Caren, Carnival, Old Accent all giving useless extra like chrome accs, fake air scope, football post spoiler, ugly local Novus bodykit, most useless junk.

Only untill Forte SX 2009 they give additional safety equipment.

Only if u believed on looser comments there, Vios would turn out to be another great success for UMW for sure, with Cerato/Elantra going to 100K price tag, Vios have no competitors in this price bracket.

Its not about patriotic or what, new trend of car buyers now tend to choose more value for money cars. Safety features and gadgets really attract new generations car buyers. Honda and toyota (malaysia distributor not global) still live in their own fantasy, same with their fans with old mindsets whistling.gif

There will still be many die hard fans out there insist the old engine with 4 speed gearbox in new vios is still better than others such as comparing to 6 speed. So camry 2.0 with 4 speed should be better than 6 speed camry 2.5 in their mindset if follow thier logic... tongue.gif
*
Better than unrefined korean engine & gb, most who had try out comments korean engine & gb unrefined & doesn't feel like the hp as claimed on paper.

Nothing wrong with 4 speed for 1.5 ltr engine, even KIA Rio uses 4 speed.

There r also some who comments Elantra doesn't have enough torque for the 6 speed box which cause it constantly down shift aka hunting for gear.

Same like Samsung S4 over hype octacore now no choice but to revert to Snapdragon quad core, due tp heating problem with their exynos.

More doesn't always mean better.
