you can't do anything else imo, just pretend that this is a lesson. i got scammed twice too at different shops in Low Yat Plaza, the price there is just crazy.

instead of angry, just ultilize your camera nicely and forgot about the scam.

this thing can happen not just newbie..its gud jus buy the camera without any accesories offered, unless something like bag you can buy at bargain..the buyer can play his role too..for example..if they offer bag, u ask for lowepro..if they offer tripod u can ask for manfrotto..if they offer filter u can ask about original hoya or b+w filter..u dont need to buy if the price not right..i find some salesman know only what they sell but little bit of else..it phycological, buyer should mentally strong when u see something exiting but not sure..the best thing to do skip the offer, there always next time if you really need it.

eh? the shop sell you the camera without the lens?
obviously the shop cheated you of the kit lens.
the 100D is sold with the lens. i am pretty sure the box will say with 18-55 STM lens as well.
Unless you agreed to trade in the lens la...no idea why you would want to do that and take the 18-200 anyway.
The 100D is known to be the lightest DSLR camera, but you go add a super huge and heavy 18-200 to pair with it blink.gif

No la.... Don't feel bad.

Don't think of it as a ripoff..........

You did not get cheated. You just bought it at a not so discounted price la. Just think that is a blessing to them that you did not shopped like a real cheapskate asking for this discount and that discount.

But for the filter, a bit pain for RM 300.00. That is how they do business I guess. I once bought a Tamron at Tarita for about RM 600.00 and they offered me a filter that cost almost the same price as the lens. But I din't fall into it because luckily that time got no more money.

Anyway just be more careful and most importantly, enjoy your new toy.

Cheers........... icon_rolleyes.gif

just consider urself buying all the accessories at normal price with no "package discount"

hope their didn't give u a ciplak tripod tongue.gif

RM300 for a UV filter is already B+W / Rodenstock level liao.... but i do love them..

btw... confirm both the body n lens not import set rite? tongue.gif

just to let u know... the 100D come with a 18-55 STM lens.. which is great for video with the silent AF motor...

i don think the tamron has it...

nothing to be sad la... smile.gif if u don need a feature, then just don't bother.. there is no ultimate, perfect lens...

u can still use MF for video... icon_rolleyes.gif

FYI.. the price difference between the old 18-55 and new 18-55 STM is an extra RM300...

there is always a cost when they add extra letters to the name tongue.gif

means grey set la.. not covered by Canon/Tamron Malaysia Warranty..

grey set still got warranty by the shop.. but not by local official distributor...

if got problem the shop will send back to the country of origin (usually HK) for repairs... so it will take longer..

doesn't mean the product is inferior.. so no worries there wink.gif

I don't call this scam tho, is marketing. Normally they will employ pretty girls to do the sales. brows.gif

btw, 18-200 Image Quality quite bad even for Canon's lens let alone 3rd party. Sincere seller will ask you to walk nearer if your lens can't zoom that much. TBH with you, 18-55 performs better! smile.gif

PS: enjoying carrying the 18-200 around (weight). tongue.gif

Well, you can buy a battery grip and slot it in, it will kinda slightly balance off the weight of the lens, and make lugging on your neck less taxing. But there's another unnecessary weight for the sake of comfort. tongue.gif your choice.

2nd alternative is: sell of the 18-200, and get a 15-85 or a 18-55 + 50mm prime(more lens to play around).

Hi, I'm new to lowyat forum as well as to photography. thought I'd tap on this topic to find out what is the general return policy of camera lense. I bought 3rd party wide angle lens on Saturday then then decided to change it to zoom lens on Monday. Went back to the shop at digital mall but was told they will minus 30% of the wide angle lens then top up the difference for the zoom lens. My question is it normal for shop to minus 30% although i bought it less than a week? Thanks.

First of all, it is still a USED unit already, no longer a brand new unit. Doesn't matter whether it is 1 week or 1 month old. It will DROP in value. IMHO, just cut off 7-10% off the current market price.

In this case, it is basically trading in the lens for another lens. You will always lose a lot of $$ when trading in used lenses for another lens. This is a fact as camera shops have to buy it from you cheap and sell it higher in order to make a profit. If you were the shop owner, you'd probably do the same.

If you want to get back as much $$ as you can, sell it in the forums here but you must be patient as these sort of things are not very liquid, meaning you can't expect to quickly sell them. If you are lucky, you might get a buyer overnight if your price is good biggrin.gif And if you are even more damn lucky, you are able to find a buyer to trade the lens you are having now with the buyer's zoom lens +top up

So in the end, if you want it fast but lose more $$ = trade in at camera shops
You want to get back as much $$ but willing to be patient = sell in online as a 2nd hand item

I think they are considering that as an used unit. More like a trade in. Maybe you can try to sell here at LYN and see whether you can fetch a better price?

Once it is sold out the door, the shop cannot take back the lens and sell it as new... they can only sell it as 2nd hand... if not it is considered fraud...

as for how much depreciation can happen in 3 days week.. it depends on each store... a lot can happen in that time...

why don't u try selling it in online forums (like Lowyat thumbup.gif), u will get a better price IMO..

the shop's offered price will be worse because they have to factor in their handling cost to resell the lens as 2nd hand..

if ur lens is one week old only and has no defects, i don think see a problem for u to sell it 5~10% cheaper smile.gif

Thanks all for the reply and explanations. I understand now. Will definitely selling it online ain't no going back to the shop. I'm still sore about 30% off instead of lower considering it was only 3days old.
