Hey there peeps,

I just bought two units of the Lumia 925 on Friday (2nd August) at RM1435 at directd for me and my dad.

It is definitely a great phone, I do not deny that.

However, I have a really big issue with it. The phone overheats a lot. Both the units overheats when using messaging, browsing internet, whatsapp, LINE etc and because its aluminium by the sides, it can sometimes be unbearable to hold due to the extreme heat. I am not sure if these two are faulty units (can't be both at the same time right?) or is it suppose to be that way. I have tried googling around but the only thing I found close to this issue is this : http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nokia-Lumi...25/td-p/1999686

.... which is no help at all. sad.gif. Oh and because overheating is associated with great battery discharge, I am only getting half day worth of battery. Release charger in the morning (9am) and die around (6pm) [light usage in my case - less than 30 min phone calls, whatsapp, and browsing for a minute or two(overheats like mad when I do this)]. This also occurs to my dad's unit and he is a heavy user which causes the phone to die even faster.. Any users out there that would be able to help with this?

Just a side note : I just successfully convinced my dad to switch to Lumia from Galaxy Note 2 and would want to keep it that way but he is incredibly unhappy with this. :S

not really. I think mine is better than yours right now,
i thought 925 should be able to extend battery life with amoled screen..

why dont you try set screen brightness to low or medium, turn off auto and sunlight readability, it will help save the battery and reduce heat cos of lesser battery drain.
*
I see alright.Yeah, my first step right off the bat was to set the brightness to low. That usage I told you about was when the brightness was set to low. I also turned the touch sensitivity to 'Normal' - don't know if this helps.

but I did not turn off the sunlight readability mainly because I thought it would be useful to have it turned on whenever I go outdoors but perhaps I should give that a try. Thanx for the suggestion. Will be monitoring the heat and the battery.

But 9 hour of light usage is like a standard of 920..
925 should able to reach more than 10 hrs..

my 920 if play youtube and ganes, with wifi like no tomorrow should lasted me 3.5 hrs..
but its not hot..just warm only..
*
Oh serious? I never knew that (the battery life of 920). I only had a Lumia 800 before this and that one lasted quite a bit for me (it is low spec'ed anyway).

Hurm, perhaps the 920 polycarbonate body makes it feel warm instead of hot. Not an expert in this so just a wild guess. The aluminium of the Lumia 925 is superb (feels expensive and gets cold in aircond room[lol]) but when the heat comes on, dayumm, it can fry an egg!(exaggeration) but it is really really hot.

My battery is currently at 17% after 14hours of usage according to the 'battery information' under battery saver. which means it was off the charger since 10 pm. I stopped using it after that, only made an 11minute call so it was idle up to 7am. which means around 9 hours idle. and only 5 hours of usage which again I used that moment to make calls and twitter for like 5 minutes. Heat is no longer a problem here. Battery life is.. Is this faulty or a 'feature'? My dad's phone died less than that time. I will update with screenshot soon. Am busy today. sad.gif

This is not a promotion. It is from the shop "directd", warranty original by avaxx. That's the price that was given.

all phones tend to heat up with intensive usage.
not onli lumia. happens to my 820, 4s, blackberry.
happens to my frens s3 and s4 as well.

nothing new. most consumer may not have see whats actually inside the handphone case. its actually jus a small piece of plastic chip. smaller than an credit card. imagine a battery and voltage that runs thru tat chip constantly during internet browsing and when the screen is constantly on. how much heat does it produce to a small piece of chip. more over, handphones doesnt have heat sync like laptops. it doesnt dissipate heat tat fast.

what i reckon is that we minimize browsing to less than 30mins each session. ranging from 10-20mins would be good enuf to keep the handphone cool. any longer, v cant even keep out hands holding the phone
*
I understand that bro, but perhaps you did not read my post. I was only using it lightly (browsing [less than 2mins, whatsapp and call] and it overheats like crazy. I know the usual overheat from other phones (my family members uses S3, Note 2, iPhone) and it is definitely nothing new but if you were to hold this phone when it overheats, it is really really hot. like seriously. Ok fine, I can live with the heat but don't tell me I should be restricted in using my phone even for just a little bit since I did spent RM1435 on it.

QUOTE(mfitri77 @ Aug 5 2013, 10:17 AM)
Well, if you got WhatsApp, Line, WeChat, Skype, it is not like you can just turn off the data line at intervals.

Nokia needed to make sure the phone downclocks when low impact activities are being done - just to make sure the heat problem stops.
*
Yes I agree with the down clocking the processor when not in use. I feel it overworks the processor for certain stuff.

QUOTE(LightningZERO @ Aug 5 2013, 12:16 PM)
The battery needs quite a few cycle of total expending off and full charge before it can reach its maximum efficiency.

Also do keep an eye on your background tasks under Settings -> applications. Some apps will run in the background if u set it to do so and will consume a lot of battery. Usually we will switch off Here Maps and Drive from running in the background as they are the biggest culprit in battery consumptions. Do switch off Bluetooth and NFC as well as they too consumes lots of battery

My Lumia 920 usually can last around 8 to 10 hours with some internet sufing, whatsapps and LINE before it left around 20% of power. And it only uses up at most 10% of battery during my sleeping time. But sometimes the battery consumptions are quite random too and the whole phone can totally no battery when I woke up. This is rare though and I find that quitting every apps (keep spamming back until nothing left) before going to bed seems to minimize this problem
*
I see, it looks like I would have to do a few more cycles then.

Yep, that was the first thing I did, I blocked most of the apps from running in background except for whatsapp.

I rarely use bluetooth and NFC so I shut them down as soon as I bought the phone. But still had the same battery life. sad.gif.

Hurm, perhaps I did not spam the back button enough. I am pretty sure I closed it all but I will do further testing on that.

I am sorry that I am griping on this issue but I really really do love this Lumia and I really want it to work well. I just feel that I will not be able to use my phone without being hooked on a charger. I go to college from 9am to 5pm and for it to die during that time would be sucky for me..

p.s : I was suppose to be out today running errands but am currently stuck at home charging my phone. sigh...

Aside from the bad news, received my casings and screen protectors in the mail today! thumbup.gif

the casing came with screen protectors but bought a separate one instead because the individual screen protectors protects the camera on the back as well. biggrin.gif

is this your first time using smartphone? do u use android phone b4?

if battery life can get 10 hours, it very good already...u want to compare smartphone with feature phone that you no need to charge for one week?

i'm using 820 and i can get battery life between 10-12 hours....depends on connection - wifi, 2g or lte....

most important - turn off the NFC, bluetooth, touch sensevitiy, background app especially here drive+

turn off auto backup as well, automatically download updates for phone update and settings-games-sync game requests...

i just use few chat apps...whatsapp, viber and skype....the more chat apps u installed, your battery life also drain fast....

with all this settings....my phone just less 10% battery life for 7-8 hours with wifi on....
*
Dude, read the post first. I did not compare to any feature phone. I was saying that I turned off all Bluetooth, NFC, Wifi, blocked apps from the background task, I EVEN OFF MY LTE!! and still got the same amount of usage ( which is just calling, whatsapp-ing, [less than 2 minutes] tweeting and browsing). AND the 14 hours was when mostly I WAS ASLEEP (NO ACTIVITY THERE). Gosh. read it please. I USE WHATSAPP ONLY. No need to judge la wei. I was a user of S3, Xperia S, Motorola Attrix, Motorola RAZR MAXX, Motorola Defy. I KNOW HOW A SMARTPHONE WORKS. I jumped to Windows Phone because I got annoyed with Android and its random bugs. I am just trying to seek help.

hi ther,

im not asking you to restrict the usage on it. but to optimize the usage lvl.

but since the heat up issue seems abnormal based on your description. i think you should bring it back and see if there's any 1 on 1 exchange on the unit
*
Hey there,
sorry for sounding hostile. I see. I will do my best to optimize it but I think I have turned off a lot of things already. Will still test it out. If still the same situation, guess I would have too visit Nokia then..

QUOTE(fantasy1989 @ Aug 5 2013, 02:36 PM)
i am using diamond screen protector ..still will masuk habuk ..but better than this 1

i grab it from lelong ..not sure got 925 version or not
*
I see, thanx. I am yet to try this one. If all else fail, I will just get a screen protector for a different phone.

Update : Found culprit. The "LINE" app causes my phone to overheat at random moments even though I just installed it but do not use it for chats (just signed in). Uninstalled it and now the phone works perfectly fine. no more heat, no more battery drain. kthxbai.
