Portfolio update for Sep-13
Portfolio performance 1-month: +2.14% 3-month: +3.65% Equity funds weighting increased from 51.3% in June to 52.2% in September. How I calculate month-on-month comparison? 1-month: profit/(loss) for month / (portfolio value at beginning of month + amount invested/(withdrawn) for month x 1/2) Why the "1/2"? Because I made the assumption that the top up/(redemption) is made during the middle of the month, i.e. portfolio value employed to generate returns for the month equals opening value plus/minus newly invested/withdrawn amount. E.g. Profit for month: RM200 Portfolio value at 01-Sep-13: RM10,000 Gross amount (inclusive of sales charges) invested during the month: RM300 RM200 / (RM10,000 + RM300 x 1/2 ) = 1.97% As for 3-month performance, it's almost similar, just tweak a bit... E.g. June to August New amount invested in June will carry weighting of 2.5/3, July 1.5/3, August 0.5/3. That is, I assume new amount invested in August will have half month to "work", new amount invested in June will have 2.5 months to "work". Heavy to brain? Enjoy... QUOTE(David83 @ Oct 2 2013, 09:24 PM) For your benefit, I clarify A BIT lar I always believe in monitoring on % terms. Let's say the profit for the month is RM200 Beginning of the month your portfolio VALUE is RM10,000 During the month u invested another RM300, let's just assume u top up on 15th September. So, this "new" RM300 got half a month to "work" for the portfolio. Hence, RM200 / (RM10,000 + ( RM300 x 15/30)) Ada faham lebih baik tak, bos? Pinkgor, your OSK GEYF and HSAQ ROI very high. Both of my ROI drop cause I topped up. So % drop, monetary value increase.

Correct me if I'm wrong but XIRR tend to be more 'accurate' if investment period are done over a year. However, subsequent top up (for investor that frequently top up) will affect the accuracy of XIRR. Yes/no?

Not to say it affect the "accuracy" lar, but will affect the number. In other words, e.g. investment made 6 months ago but gave ROI 3% will give u IRR of roughly 6%; investment made 18 months ago and gave ROI 9% will give IRR of roughly 6%. Get it? All my funds also got top ups...but the timing of the top ups will produce different results...maybe I got lucky and topped up at relatively cheap NAV price. |

Like buying in new funds, your XIRR will be 2 digit, as huge as 80+% |
