Don't worry too much and just trade. You learn far more by making mistakes. You won't get far if you rely too much on other traders opinion and advice. I used to listen to them all the time, and it got me nowhere.

As for prices checking, use Dota 2 Lounge. Use the search function and put items you want to price check in your "have" once, and in your "wants" once. There you can see how much people are willing to pay, as well as how much people are willing to sell for. This way, you can find the most reasonable price for both parties.

E.g. People sell SK Set for 2 keys. People want to buy for 1 key. So a good price for buying / selling would be 1.5 key.
