still makes me wonder how many people will be called for interview this year alone (due to absence of PAC), how many phases of interview and how many vacancies are to be filled this year... rolleyes.gif hmm.gif

same feeling here! I am waiting anxiously and the feeling is not so right..

will the next fasa be in next month? Hmm...oh, btw, those are shortlisted for the upcoming interview told that the final result will be only known on 31st dec 2013! blush.gif
*
not quite sure though when the upcoming phases of interview will be conducted as itll be fasting month and raya. and was wondering too if SPA got enough time to send all the letters, calling for interview as the announcement was just made today and the first day of interview will be conducted on the day after tomorrow sweat.gif

spikey2506 have you received the letter calling for interview? or is it printable from SPA portal? dont remember the exact procedure here... blush.gif

Almost 85k applicants for 100 PTDs.  shocking.gif

Do you guys think the lucky 570 that are being interviewed is the total number? Or just first phase?
*
curious about this too... hmm.gif

If 570 being the total number, and 100 vacancies to be filled, everyone have 15-20% chances. but if its just the first phase, then... rclxub.gif and we dont even know how many phases will there be... doh.gif sweat.gif nobody wanna call SPA for clarification? hmm.gif

Did you passed the previous exam on 13.04.2013 or are you from a previous batch but failed the interview's part (last year)? My friend who failed the interview part last year is not included in this phase too.

sure 10 phases? the trend seems to be 1 phase per month. considering the result will be out in late december, that would make interview june-november (6 months) and with approx 600 candidates per batch, thatll be 3600 candidates to be interviewed. but well, just my thought. maybe im wrong. in any way, if its 6000 to be interviewed, the chance would be uber slim with only 100 vacancies.

got the job. but i just reported for duty in another govt statutory body few weeks ago. rclxub.gif

gotta think hard whether to jump ship or stays... hmm.gif

darn its hard to make decision. have been unemployed long enough while waiting for my convocation last year, and now these job offers came almost at the same time... rclxub.gif

if we can choose our placement upon finishing the cadet-ship, maybe, just maybe its worth the try. else, would prefer to remain where i am now... hmm.gif

stat body career progression might be slow due to being a closed service. and also chances of moving around is none.

i rekomen u accept ptd post and go thru the 1yr course. 99% u wont fail unless some major discipline problem. considered you're edi in the service once u accept the offer.
*
QUOTE(danny_rocker @ Jan 28 2015, 10:00 AM)
PTD is a very prestigious job in the public service. Who knows you may end up becoming the next KSN (Ketua Setiausaha Negara) ? brows.gif
*

well, its an academic post with an offer to sponsor my PhD level study, provided i can secure a place within a year. Therefore, there should be a promotion to DS51 upon completion (within the next 4-5 years). Granted, currently its a temporary post though, pending securing the placement and completion of the said PhD (upon which itll be converted into a permanent post).

and on the other hand, this PTD offer is a permanent post, yet it starts with M41. Climbing the pay-grade scale will take some time...

one is a gamble, taking chances with better outcome, the other a safer, rather slightly slower career progression... hmm.gif sweat.gif

thus, the dilemma between PhD or PTD... hmm.gif

if not mistaken PTDM41 not permanent yet

PTD- gonna took around 10-12 years to reach grade 52

Academician- 4-5 years gonna secure grade 51 , another couple years of research and well impact journal---tittle Prof
if i on ur shoe...i gonna choose PhD. maybe it gonna have mental endure for 2-3 years  (but since u already got master then Phd not so much killer for u ) but much better than mental and physical endurance during kadet PTD
*
QUOTE(deepan84 @ Jan 29 2015, 12:27 AM)
If u prefer academic line, go for PHD. But that also Xtentu pass right.
If u want management and paperwork job, go for PTD but promotion is damn slow now. More than 5yrs to m44. Bout 10yrs kot to m48. U do the maths la.
PHD vs DPA, I can say DPA is much easier la with just countless events to organize and physical modules. PHD really requires full concentration using ur brains and intellect. Ur choice. If it was me, and if I'm so into academic line, I'll become a professor.
*
thus, the much needed soul-searching... sweat.gif

For PTD, id prefer to be in MoFA or MINDEF, as those are my passion. On the other hand, my current placement kinda allows me to involve in issues and topics of my interests. Of course, with PTD, ive gotta toe the line, and the working hours would be 8-5 (plus some more), whereas in academic, i have the (supposedly academic freedom) in expressing my opinion and a more flexible working hours... and yes, its still no certainty, whether ill finish my phd on time, or even at all.. sweat.gif

well, havent gotten the official email & offer letter yet. thus, still got the time to think, i suppose...

thanks for the input guys smile.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

bro, are u successful too? wink.gif

alrite back to topic..PhD vs PTD is indeed quite a dilemma.

Having been in research line for more than 5 years, and got both opportunity now then i understand the decision to be made.

To cut it short:

PhD: If your research topic now IS YOUR PASSION and there is continuity  from your undergrad or master study/or at least the field you are really interested in, and you got offered scholarship to do, or good finance support, or got offered PhD offer by good/pretigous Uni or good supervisor (at least easy to average to pass) by all means go for your PhD..route to DS51 will be faster, and in 5-10 years you can get DS54 (Assoc Prof) or even JUSA C (Prof) if you are sharp enough.. cool2.gif

PTD: All the above provided that you are really sharp and top in your field, know how to do research, and type that can focus on your narrow research field for the whole of your life..not to mention labwork and lab/research/student management and also passion to teach until you die.. hehe
ELSE..go for PTD..it is currently the highest and fastest gomen servant route..aside from lecturer and dr lar..

just my 2 cents  smile.gif
*
yea, got it. havent received the official notification through email/letter though. at least it gave some sorta time to think it over. theres a strong tendency to remain in the academia though... sweat.gif
but the future is for nobody to tell. maybe will change my mind later... icon_rolleyes.gif have been applying for this post for a while now, since the end of my undergrad study, but havent been lucky till now... sweat.gif

and yourself? personally, which will you choose between the two?

i called spa/jpa, and the online results are credible..finger cross lets wait for the letter lor..

depending on their starting salary offer, 99% i am going for ptd..as i am more to management type, have been living in lab for 8 years..i think it is enough smile.gif

if i am younger, got phd scholarship/offer before age 25-28 maybe i am going for phd..young minds are good for research.. rclxms.gif

but later in ptd u can do phd also wat, but half research half management ler..in 5-10 yrs most of ptd should hold masters degree at minimum, and top guns all PhD level..should be  cool2.gif

both have its own pro and cons..specific job requirements..and its own prestige..
*
ahh.. if im to enroll with ptd, itll be 2.5K basic with allowances, nearing 3.5K monthly. M41 of course. to stay here, current;y im enjoying 2.6K a month with annual increment and once im done with phd later if (all goes well), itll be around 5K basic with allowances of around 1.5K or so with DS51... hmm.gif faster to climb the rank and salary scale, of course.

true that we can do phd later as ptd, but will gotta wait few more years and by then, ill be a bit older and the brain might be a bit slower... sweat.gif

well, just gonna wish and pray for guidance in making the right decisions smile.gif nod.gif

exactly... sweat.gif

for now, i only have a very rudimentary form of proposal and have neither gotten a seat in any uni nor approach any potential supervisors, yet. just started this job a month ago actually... thus the dilemma... sweat.gif
