Does anyone know if they take into account existing remuneration and working experience for the PTD starting salary?
Scratch that, found the answer in this thread.

Also, what are the chances of being accepted if one has a PhD?

Depends on your performance during PAC and interview. There is Minimimum qualification (Degree) but not 'maximum' like pHD.

But why phd want to jumpship from academic? Better pay as lecturer some more.

Trust me, I rather not join if possible. I was a MOSTI scholar. Under the terms of my scholarship, I must submit an application through SPA and accept a position should they offer one. I asked the staff from the scholarship department about the lack of lecturing options in the SPA portal, but he just told me to apply for any other position just to “cukup syarat”.

My problem now is that I’ve been teaching in the private sector for quite a while and I’m not sure I can withstand a massive pay cut due to existing commitments. There’s a clause in my contract that says I can request to be exempted from the bond if they fail to offer me a job within 1 year of my application date, which coincidentally is coming up next month. I’m asking here assuming they don’t grant the exemption as I’m already halfway through the selection process (sitting for the psychometric exam).

Make up your mind thou. Or prepare for next year cadetship and save as much as you can for the period of 1 year.

I have one question to ask, is it normal for an engineer to be a ptd? And which job would you all prefer? Engineer in private or ptd tongue.gif

Its normal, but you’ll probably be in bahagian pembangunan coz there you mostly deal with the jurutera (skim J) which is a bonus for those with engineering background

You need to realize that there is differences between schemes.

J = Totally engineering and can work up to gain your IRship / Ts. etc., compete among Js', then lead the Jabatan if you good in 'politics'
M = It's totally penTADBIRan with DIPLOMATIC element. Best thing about it is you able to skip the queue and suddenly become their leader

M is like a generalist. Whereas J is like a specialist.

Might scared end up in something not related?

Even in private, as time goes, you will learn about legal, marketing, insurance and whatnot to work up as COO, CEO...unless you choose the specialist path.
