Let's not get into the functionality vs aesthetics war.
It is undeniable we prefer good looking people, and also good looking things. There was even a book or two written about it. However, we are dealing with a piece of technology, not a work of art nor decor, nor a hot chick/guy.
Technology's primary defining characteristic is functionality, therefore anything else is "non-functional". This is also not really anything to do with "interface" since it's just a large slab of glass with a shell, with virtual buttons to push. Every one that writes about materials talks about that intangible factor called "feel". It adds no functionality to the phone.
Strictly speaking, "reliability" is also non-functional, but it is a desirable characteristic, so it can be engineered to a specified tolerance level of reliability and before planned obsolescence sets in

However, for those die hards about "feel", get whatever makes you feel good.
