Gold fell yesterday as a stock market rally diverted some buying interest from the metal, and as a report that the German central bank would back monetary easing measures drove the dollar higher against the euro.
Spot gold was down 0.4 per cent at US$1,290.50 an ounce at 1140GMT, while US gold futures for June delivery were down US$5.20 an ounce at US$1,290.60.
The metal is still up seven per cent this year due mainly to a strong first quarter, with prices little changed from the beginning of April.
It has been caught in a range between US$1,285 and US$1,315 since the middle of last month.
Among other precious metals, silver was down 0.6 per cent at US$19.41, while spot platinum was up 0.5 per cent at US$1,439.25 and spot palladium was up 0.4 per cent at US$805.80 an ounce. Reuters
