i can help you cancel out few from your list. For Canon i suggest G12 and Powershot G1X. For Lumix is Lx5, Lx7 and GF5

errr if you can afford the lumix LX7, no need to consider the LX5 lumix GF5 is already a mirrorless camera. different 'class' already, so it's unfair to compare this against the other models. im sure it can beat the rest in all 3 categories, but you may need 3 different lenses to do it. so think about the $. GF5 aside, i'd vote for the canon G1X. but then again, why is the awesome Sony RX100 is not in your list? This post has been edited by dvlzplayground: Jul 30 2013, 10:35 PM

Well, you don't need to be a Sony fanatic to appreciate the excellent and outstanding image quality of Sony RX100. The 1 inch large sensor and Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* f1.8 lens combo will blow your mind.

My sister is using the GF3 , personally i feel its horrible :3 most of the pictures taken are blurry. It is said to hold one of the fastest AF. Yes it's fast , but the picture is horrible :3
from there on , i dont like lumix. lol. Canon for me :3

If you are into "old school" design.. G12 or G1X is definitely the preferred choice..

When you are using compacts with small sensor, you need a fast lens, i.e. lens with large aperture. F2.8 and F2 are simple not enough. That's why I there is only once choice and that's LX7 with F1.4. The stops you gain is sky and earth when it comes to small sensor camera.
You can also consider Sony RX100 I or II. The sensor is bigger and produce nicer color. But it is more expensive than LX7.

I once owned a Canon and was happy with it, until I get deeper into photography and was disappointed by Canon's attitude in satisfying consumers. Now a happy Sony users with cheaper lenses and cheaper camera.

Yeah, in a sense, Canon is like Apple. Gosh, I'm still using iPhone & iPad so I can't go with this analogy.
But seriously, I still have a few old Canons (A80, S90, SX10). They did serve their purpose as long as you don't use your 21" LCD monitor.
My main camera now is RX100. But both Canon & Lumix are fine if you know their limitations. RX100 also has limitations anyway. So just draw a line in term of your needs and your budget.
My 2 baht.

Depends on what you really want then you can choose.
For Canon pocketable quality camera is the S series. S110 for budget and S120 as the latest model. Panasonic's competing model is the LF1.
More capable are the G series. G15 and G16. A bit bulkier bit still a very good size for travel. Capable of having external flash and is known as a compact that does excellent macro. Panasonic's competing model is the LX7.
Zoom camera is the SX50 HS. 50X zoom. If you need the zoom then this is your camera. A bit bulky for the casual travel. Panasonic's competing model is the FZ200.
