Hye Guys,

NOTE: I have posted this same question in "Problem with temperature? Seek consultation here" thread but there was no reply or update since i posted my question cry.gif

3 months back i build a rig for my video conversion works. (i7-3930K LGA2011 UNLOCKED, Rampage IV gene, ASUS GTX 650, Noctua nh-u9b cooler, Silverstone 700w Power Supply)

Whenever i start a conversion, the temperature goes higher.

Should i change the Noctua nh-u9b cooler to other Air/liquid cooler? It's not Overclocked. Please advice me...

Have u replaced your thermal paste? Have you tighten the cooler enough so that most of the cpu ihs surface has contacted the cooler?

That is weird.. You did not overclock...

The possibilities:
1) You did not remove the clear plastic sheet below the heatsink.
2) The software got problem (but rarely software got problem)
3) Or you did not put thermal paste?
4) You did not clean the IHS of the chip properly.

hi sir
How long does it take for your CPU at 100% to reach 90C?
like in just few mins?
1400rpm noctua is decent. I never use this fan, but the fan should be good.
Do you have sufficient air intake and exhaust fan configuration?
How about sharing the shile casing picture (and where the fans are located)?

So you confirmed theres no extra clear sheet in between the IHS and heatsink?

If so... Try to do proper clean.. Use isopropyl alcohol or articlean and lint free cloth to clean the HSF and processor....

Then try put the thermal paste properly. Then try again see whether the temps is balance or not...

@e-jump Left and Right side Cover Opened. Top have a Big Fan and front have a small fan(Check Image). Within 2 minutes temperature shoots up 50°C to 80°C (converting a 15 min video file with 2 pass setting). Once conversion finished it's fall back to 50+°C.

@abidgreen93 I have remove all the clear sheet and other black tapes on 1st day installation. added thermal paste a bit and tried conversion (happened like mention at above)

I think.... You put too much thermal paste. Google how to put thermal paste properly.. Just a tiny bit will do...

while the thermalpaste is a lil excessive, but i dont think that is the problem of the high heat.
with side panel on(totally close the casing) does the case itself also became hot?
I have a feeling its lacking intake air for fresh airflow.

for troubleshooting how about you do some testing with opening up of the 5.25 covers so air can pass thru it

Are you sure you're not applying too much thermal paste on that CPU?

I thought it will automatically turn off when you hit such temperature?
Thermal paste applied is too much but I don't think that it will effect your temperature that much.

Trying putting back your stock cooler and give it a try.

Good idea. But i think i will make the case worse. Right? Coz the CPU won't even stand a custom heatsink.

UNLESS. It's the heatsink problem itself. thumbup.gif notworthy.gif

Yea. Was suspicious about the heatsink, that is why I request him to switch back to stock cooler and see if it still detects around the same temperature.
Honestly if his CPU is running on 90c, I don't think that it could lasts for a day. sweat.gif
